7970 Lightning, worth the premium?

Depends on the silicone mate, I could only manage around 1180mhz on stock volts.

Temps look better, you'll notice a trend between Core and VRM temps, usually in all cases the VRM's will sit 2-5c higher then the core, memory usually 2-5c lower then the core.

OK just played NS2 for an hour I checked Afterburner and the max was:

Core 36c
Mem 30
VRMs 40

I'm really happy with that as before I applied the TIM to the heatpads my VRMs were at 72c! Memory was also a lot higher at 45c IIRC.

This was Core @ 1100Mhz btw

Will leave the memory alone at 1500 then and just work on the core to 1200 think will be happy at that, to be honest it flies at the standard lightning overclock anyway.

Brick wall at 1240, that was with mem at 1400, just disco's over that, volts at 1.31, the remaining volts do not help. Temps are great but vrm seems a bit high compared to others.

Damn, thats quite poor for a Lightning :(

Nudged memory voltage and maxed out aux voltage too?

yep

me and chips just dont go, i dont like the fried variety and my gpu's poor and my cpu, well im at 4.7 rock solid, think 4.8's doable but gonna need over 1.5:(, [email protected], 1.44v are maxing @62c, dont know whats safe with 3770k anyway back on the lightning, any way of improving vrm temps, would TIM be better than the pads?

using 12.11beta4

Wouldn't have thought so, though back when fitting GPU blocks was a pain in the bum I used to put a tiny drop of TIM on before the thermal pads to hold them in place, might help? That said, your temps look about spot on to me.

think i wont bother, for a few degrees just gonna wait for the 8970LTG+waterblock and enjoy my sytem for now, those temps/cpu are when running IBT so are way lower for bf3 and such.
