7970 prices

I don't have any issue with the prices...

Once the initial price-gouging dissipates and the supply stabilises you'll be looking at around £400-£420 for the 7970, which is better value than the GTX580 3Gb and not an unusual/unreasonable premium for the fastest single GPU card. Prices will drop sharply when Kepler is released, but until then AMD have the best technology, and users can expect to pay a premium to access it.

With the 5870 AMD were trying to obtain market share, and gain more credibility in the high-end market. Now that they have a good proportion of the market share there's no reason not to price their cards at what the market is willing to pay.

i heard a lot less whinning when intel sell their i7 3960x for £800
consider thats an even big con that this when the 3960 is only marginally faster than 3930

if you find it too expensive buy their midrange, still too expensive buy low end

of course i would love to buy a brand spanking new ferrari for mondeo money

the manufacturer is not being greedy, they are running a business, they are selling it at what it is worth, what is worth is what ppl willing to pay vs stock level

too expensive don't buy it

ppl seem to throw all their logic out the window when new item comes out.

ordered me club3d 7970 this morning, shipping email received this afternoon.

Only thing i cant understand is the massive price difference between different brands as im going to fit the arctic cooling accelor extreme when its out later this month anyway.

Willling to invalidate your warranty at the same time?

Well worth the risk. Had one of those coolers on my 5970. Transformed my gfx card into this amazingly silent powerhouse..

Practically eliminates the need to watercool. Only downside is they are big... Makes crossfire difficult.

I wouldn't risk it just because it's a whole new run of gpus, bound to be some problems somewhere.

All the reviews state the new cooler is vastly improved over the original 58xx cooler though?

The heat output is also vastly higher than on 5800 cards, not to mention the additional heat dissipation when running the card overclocked.

Nothing wrong with installing an aftermarket cooler, somebody who has done it before will have enough knowledge not to screw up the installation on a new card.

Every new generation the reference cards are always the least problematic of the lot.

If they do then that is up to them.

No confirmation either way at the moment (no status change). I would have assumed if it would have been cancelled I would have heard asap (ie: Do I want to pay the extra to get it or a refund).

The fact I haven't got an update (bar the normal process) could be a good thing.

Quick update - Card has been shipped so price was honoured.

Holding tight until the next gen battle starts. This is probably the first new AMD or NVidia top end card that I have not felt the urge to buy in the last 6 or 7 years. Perhaps Kepler will reinvigorate my mojo in 3 months or so.

Hope the 7950 push 6950 prices right down, wouldn't mind upgrading from my 6850.

I can't see it having any major impact.

If they're around the £350 mark then 2GB HD 6950's will be £110-£150 less at current OcUK prices and at that price point they would still be a good buy.

Perhaps the HD 7850/7870 launch may have more of an impact depending on what price point they come in at.
