7970 vs 670

I'd say they are both great cards but what is noteworthy with the GTX 670 is the first batch of cards 2 days post release are being easily clocked to boost of 1350+ core and 25%+ memory overclocks.

I still think the best cherry-picked 7970s will clock far better and perform better compared to GTX 670s but I don't think there is consistency there across the board. Also, there is just something about AMD drivers I cannot overcome. They don't inspire confidence and almost every AMD GPU I've had either on desktop or laptop gave me issues with heat, noise, drivers. Personal experience only though.

loljustlol

I have not experienced this stutter issue that the 680's are plagued with. I would be interested to see if any other 680 owners have this?

Check the Nvidia forums there is a huge thread about it. And Nvidia themselves have replicated the problem and are looking for a fix.

IF you haven't noticed it you must not play with V-sync on or adaptive sync on. It seems to only occur with these on. For me I can replicate the issue very easily by playing cs:source with adaptive sync on, it's stutters like crazy.

Does appear to be quite hit and miss though. Some are hitting 1300MHz+ quite easily yet a few are stuggling to get even +50MHz! :(

i hate people who say "670 no brainer" because it clearly isn't...

the problem is that 7970 OC like crazy whilst 670 OC overhead is also quite large, unless you can find a decent review where they actually OC both cards & compare at a decent resolution, you have to flip a coin.

However i found sucha review in existance but the resolution is too large for average user: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/05/14/geforce_680_670_vs_radeon_7970_7950_gaming_perf/3

N.b. the 670 runs better at smaller resolutions whilst the ati is oviously built for larger resolutions hence the 3gb vram.

i'd go for the safe bet. nvidia are having stuttering problems & the 670 is either placed on a cheap PCB or 680 PCB whilst the 7970 PCB is built for the 7970. oviously the PCB may have no impact but you never know.

I too am stuck in 2 way.

i think i'm going go for the Crazy deal overclockers are doing with the asus 7970 == same price as a non-reference 670!

mainly because my gut says so(AMD fan) & because they're both truly great cards.
