7970 vs 680 thread.

Have we not covered every aspect so far? Can people not agree they're relatively even with 680 taking slight edges here and there in outright max OC gaming performance?

There's no evidence to suggest anything different. What's left to argue?

No. I completely agree with you. A review and video can't be trusted. So that goes for every other review then, right?

As for whether I believe the results Tom achieved? Tom as in Tom Logan? yes, I do.

I know what equipment he uses. So, maybe he's made an error? prove it.

Go and ask him I guess ! because bottom line is the results.

I don't have to prove it, the review itself proves he is either corrupt or incompetent.

Ok this should work now :D

Settings for BF3 are 1920x1080 (1080P) without using EVGA Precision tool (as it comes out of the box).

I am using a EVGA GTX680 with an I5 2500K @ 4.6 and 8gig of DDR3 1600 ram.

These were the setting I used.

As you can see it dropped to 52 whilst I was blowing a tank up but got as high as 92 whilst I was stabbing somebody in the throat :D

I think everyone will agree this is a good test for any GFX card and so I feel it is a viable bench test.

I will be testing in a little while with the EVGA Precision X tool and see what difference that makes.

Also if anybody is interested I will do a bench in 3D?

Ohhh and also you can see what a fan I am of blowing things up and stabbing people in the throat. (I stabbed 3 guys this round and missed out on 2 others cos I was slow :()

Ok I have done the bench with the EVGA Precision X tool running and it gives a very nice boost.

Same settings as last time except this time I have a 120% boost going on.

As you can see the "boost" realy does help and gives a nice frame rate addition in a heavy GPU title. Again, please remember these are full 64 MP caspian border pics.

I can honestly say I have no concerns with the GTX 680 and am very pleased with the results.

You will see this time in a full blown tank explosion the frames dropped to 59 where previous it was 52.

Edit:

The last pic is a little unfair as I am dead (again) and there is nothing of importance to see so the frames of 112 are OTT.

Very nice results, especially for MP.
Not a huge fan of BF3 but i am of the engine, and EA seem to be want to use it in a much stuff as possible, so will be a handy GPU for the future.

Can you do a 3D mark11 run at them clocks? I see you have bumped the fan speed up, this is good as it can help keep the overclock stable.

You should have the power target all the way to the right to make sure your clocks are not being held back in performance.

AMD=7970=FlagShip=very good card

Nvidia=680=FlagShip=very good card

Game Developers: Boss! lets just make a game for the consoles instead of the PC, its cheaper and we get more money for it, what we will do is, tweak a few things and make a real lazy ass cheap CONSOLE port for the PC.

That's a gr8 idea Tony, but what about those people who paid a lot of money for the 7970 and 680 and all those with Crossfire/SLI, surely they want games to push there new cards to the limit and get good FPS!

Tony: They can suck my **** if they want!! I DON'T CARE IF THEY HAVE A BEST CARD ON THE PLANET. THERE IS NO MONEY IN PC GAMES,

Both cards are good guys the question is, does the PC game developers know and do they care!!!

This thread was pretty 'ugh' until this awesome quote! Keep up the benchmark's guys. Would also be good to see some CPU comparisons so contribute eve if you're not on Sandybrdige. Personally I'd love to see how much these cards are held back by high clocked s775's and 1st gen i5/i7's
