Wish they had clocked that 7970 at 1200 or higher.

Nice find matt, that vbus is holding the 79's firm yet.

You can smash 60 fps with 7950 CrossFire@~£400 with modest 1100/1500MHz clocks.;):D

You can do that at 925/1250 Tommy. ;)

The 7950 was a typing mistake, changed now.

Price is the issue. To be releasing a card that only matches year old tech and still be no cheaper is entirely the issue. At best you could hope that drivers may improve. New cards at the same price point should be quicker. People should be annoyed with these offerings.

My concern is now that AMD will look at nvidia's pricing/performance and think "hey people are willing to pay the same money for no improvement, and a ridiculous premium for small performance gains. We'll have some of that."

Awaits the 8*** series with some trepidation.

AMD had better not do that or they won't be getting my money.

Whilst benchmark scores are nice and all, game performance is what matters. Scotty's score is great though, will be interesting to see if any other 770's can get near it.

I am pretty sure he would do equally well in games. The great thing about both the Valley and Heaven benches is it is all about GPU performance. The CPU (providing you have a reasonable one like a 2500k) does very little to influence the out come, there are no physics or combined tests to skew the results.

Lets test that theory. I have some results saved from the 7970 on old drivers.

Time to play and see if I can make that 28 :D

Scotty see if your golden clocking 770 can compete with the 680 slayer at 1250/1823.

I think you should also allow whyscotty to pick a game benchmark as well.

You have got to play Home and Away.:D

:D

Well i guess now is a good a time as any to release some shocking news into the community. The 680 slayer is dead. :( I woke up one morning and got no display. Sent it back to ocuk and Bailey took one look at it and said it was goosed and sent it back to msi for repair or replacement. One month later nothing from msi so they offered me a refund. So here i am now with £375 7950 crossfire.

I will never forget that 7970, especially the ease with which it dispatched 680's worth up to £450 for the cost of £270.

Benchmarks threads will go Red - Green - Red - Green..... as new generations come and old ones go, before the Titan and 780 it was all Red at the top, its still Red at the top of a given price point, you need a £550 + Green GPU to beat a £300+ Red one that's also 2 years old.

Lets wait for the HD 8970 and see how much Green is still at the top.

True dat but honestly id much rather be top of game performance than some meaningless benchmark. That said though, it would still be nice to be at the top. :p

Matt, I just ran TR with those settings @1200/1800 (CPU @4.5) and got:

58.4
94.0
73.9

I then put shadows to ultra and got:

54.0
81.7
68.1

13.6 (beta 3 I think ).

EDIT: I dunno. There's a different pic in the quote Kaap posted. I give up :p

Sounds about right i think Petey? There were performance improvements for AMD users after i ran that bench sadly.

EDIT

Petey i did post a 1050/1500 score first of all as i had a stock and overclocked score but i only meant to post the overclocked score. I corrected my post thats probably why. :p

lol, two Gaming Evolved titles, one of which wasn't even really a AAA game, both with game features implemented to exaggerate the difference between the two cards. Bias much?

Only two benchmarks i have saved at 1080p unfortunately. Regardless a 770 at 1400 core should trump those scores easily, as Kap pointed out earlier.

Those features you talk about are open standard, btw. :D

Single GTX 770

Lol, looks like four titans running low details. :D

I have convinced Scotty to fire up his 770 at 1400 core or just below and try and beat the scores i posted earlier. If he kills his card his son will kill him, and quite possibly me as well if he reads the chat log. :D

Not bad considering it favours you side slightly

103% power target you numpty :p

Yeah fair play. Still a cracking card you have there mate. I wonder if your boy realises that you abuse it when hes not around Lol.

I consider whyscotty's card an anomaly, a freak of nature :p I doubt I can beat it since I probs need at least 1300mhz on the core which I don't yet know possible since my card won't arrive till tomorrow. At any rate I'm thinking of swapping it for a 770 anyways cos I play Borderlands 2. I know its a fast card but it would have been nice if it was an obvious choice to the 7970 like how a 7870 is obviously faster than a 7850.

Scotty has a golden one for sure. I doubt you'd catch it on the Valley/Heaven benchmarks but i bet you'd be more than a match for it in games though.
