7990 Inquiry.

With just AB open, does it still show 100% usage?

AFAIK GPU-z used to have a bug where it would ramp up gpu2 usage when opened, AB also showed the usage going to 100%, but when GPU-z was closed, it would drop back down in AB.

Both Gpu-Z and AB were both showing 99% usage on Gpu 2.
Since disabling ULPS it's now 0% on both apps.

Tried disabling hardware acceleration, made no difference.

So tried disabling ULPS and that seems to have done the trick. What effect if any, will this have?

Gpu 1 @ 38C Gpu 2@ 56C at 20% fan speed and 0% usage idling. So a lot better, but what temps should I be looking at?

I have one 1440 monitor and on air and mine idles at about 45C core one and 42C core 2, always seems to run a bit lower. Under load it usually maxs out at about 80-85C. I am using LTmatt's bios.

Turning off ULPS really seems to have done the trick.
Got up this morning and both cores running at 35C, but that might have something to do with that nice cool breeze blowing in through the balcony door.:D
I'll keep an eye on it today and see how it goes.

The first rule of Crossfire Club.

Rule 1 - Disable ULPS unless you're into power saving. Unlock extra performance in the region of 5%+.

Might be worth looking at my guide as well. How To Make Sure Crossfire Is Working Properly.

Just reading through your xfire guide, got to the bit where you have to right click the Icon in the taskbar. I don't get any of the options that you show, all I get is the option to choose CC or AMD home.
This is my first time using AMD, always used Nvidia and never had any problems.

Prior to reading your link, I was playing a bit of BL2 and in less than an hour had 3 lock ups and had to restart. Playing with optimised settings and performance enabled in CCC. I have never had any issues playing this game when I had my 670 or sli 560ti. Monitor is set at 144Hz, although dropping to 60HZ on the desktop gives a 6C drop on Gpu 1.
Also been trying to get Gpu and Cpu temps to show OSD with AB and HWinfo64, but does'nt seem to want to play. Any other apps I can use for monitoring temps etc,. Just want to get some idea as to what is causing the problems in BL2.

Oh, just realised you have a 7990. That's what i get for skim reading lol. I would highly recommend the first thing you do is use my custom 7990 bios. The stock 7990 bios throttles rather badly, even with +20% power tune. I notice you have the power tune at 0% currently. Here's what I'd recommend.

1. Flash and update the bios of both gpu's using my 7990 bios flashing guide here.

That is not essential, but you will get better performance and less throttling with the card if you do. Always have the power limt at +20% too.

2. Uninstall your current drivers, restart. Download and install 14.7 beta drivers from AMD website.

3. Update to the latest version of afterburner. Uninstall the old version first and restart prior to installing the new one.

4. Copy my afterburner settings and disable ULPS and restart your pc.

5. Read and copy my guide, How To Make Sure Crossfire Is Working.

6. If all that is done correctly, you should see the proper options in CCC when you right click. I think in your case it might be best for a clean start as I'm not entirely sure what's gone on before this.

Any questions, shout.

Not sure what is happening. Uninstalled the drivers, restarted and then installed 14.7 Beta and restarted. Installed the latest MSI AB. But now, it is not showing any temps for Gpu2. So checked with Gpu-Z, the same thing. Gpu1 is 38C with 1100+ rpm fan speed but if I select Gpu2, for a split second it shows 34C with 880rpm fan speed before going to 0C and 880rpm fan speed.
Have just disabled ULPS, so need to restart and then will have a look at your bios.
I still don't get the settings you get when right clicking the CCC icon.

That's normal, once ULPS is disabled then it will show up. Show me what settings you have, take a screenshot.

1) Set power limit at +20%
2) Enable voltage monitoring
3) Enable unified gpu usage monitoring
4) Update the bios

Done the bios flash, re-installed 14.7drivers and MSI AB. Redone all the settings you recommend in your guide. Loaded up BL2 and within 5 minutes it crashed.
Going to try a few other games and see if I get the same problem.

I found the 14.7 to cause a few issues with my 7990 so went back to 14.4 and not noticed any issues

Just gone back to 14.4 and everything seems okay so far and I can use Bios 1. :D
Still get a slow motion effect in BL2 when there is a lot of action and explosions all going on at the same time.
Temps never went over 55C, Usage was about 33%, Core was 1000Mz and Memory 1500Mhz on both Gpu 1&2. So not to bad.

Thanks for the help guys, really appreciate it. :)

Idle temps are both consistent at 37C and 38C, which I think is acceptable.

I will be doing a fresh install of Windows when my RIVE board comes back.
Ran CCleaner and could'nt believe how many duplicate files I had from installing and un-installing CCC. Never had this problem with Nvidia.

Any way, thanks again lads and LtMatt for the Bios and the simple guides, cheers. :D
