7990 or wait for new series?

only thing is annoying in 7990 the coil whine , do all 7990 have it ? for that sort of dosh you would expect the card to be perfect.

Running something intensive for 12-24 hours usually gets rid of most of it. I've heard putting them under water stops it as well.

So you guys know, I didn't wait. The Gigabyte 7990 being a further £10 cheaper than the already well priced MSI 7990 pushed the decision (there is only so much temptation a man can take!). I am sure I won't be too disappointed with my choice either way.

I still hope the new series are damn good and that the people who are holding strong get something for their patience all the same.

I ordered it when the Gigabyte 7990 was on the daily sale (was around £469.99 I think), but only just remembered about it as I had the dispatch for it today. The plus side of getting this now instead of waiting for the AMD announcement is I can start hitting the games I've had sitting here, waiting for the arrival of a new card.

Good call on that GigaByte 7990 (I hope!) ... Got my despatch notice today too :)

Price finally swung it tbh after loads of umming and awwing and ogling a pair of gtx 780s. On a single 2560x1600 monitor so drivers ok for me .... and expecting it to play well with my current 7970.

Yeah, well whatever I did, it was always going to be a significant improvement to the 6950 I had.

So I was going to be happy either way, in this case I get to have it a lot sooner as I have been waiting a while, because in between upgrading my rig and the graphics card, I also upgraded my fathers machine. So I had been waiting a good 2 months already to get a new card. My impatience was always a big issue, but with the savings on the Gigabyte 7990, I don't think I have made a monumentally bad choice, even if the new cards turn out to be money.

Excellent news and choice mate. If you don't need the games it brings the price down even more if you sell them off.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed, absolutely loving my card :)

It's due within half an hour so not too long now.

I wouldn't sell the games to be honest, even if I already owned them or had no interest in. I would pass them down to my mates who don't own the games. I am already delighted with the price I paid so I am not overly concerned with earning any more back. Rather make my friends a bit happier, than the banks at this stage. :D

Dagnamnit.... same here. Upgraded from my trusty and well served i7 920 with 4770k and been waiting for the 9xxx series to replace my (still awesome) 6950 ever since. So tempting to go for the 7990 but i know i'll be kicking myself when the 9 comes out... not long now :D
