So, despite only recently getting a 40D, which I absolutely love, the HD video is becoming very appealing so I'm going to once again move up the ladder...

Thing is, I've come to buy one and the big places are all out of stock, so I'm just checking that we're not round the corner from a 7D MkII or anything as I can't see another reason for the lack of stock?

Any ideas?

we are always round the corner from the new better models, and the 7d is due a refresh soonish.

Stock levels are down because of the tsunami, not model revisions.

Latest Canon rumours indicate 1Ds4 is due for August announcement followed shortly by the 5D3 then 7D in year 2012, these are obviously just rumours.

Like above the reason for stock shortage is because of the earthquake and tsunami.

I have a 50D and would love an upgrade for better low light performance, it's the only area that gives me a bit of grief with the camera.

I'd have got a 7D but it's performance for lots of people is worse :(

I'm waiting now to see what comes either in the form of a new 7D or 5D3.

ahh thats interesting i hadn't thought of that (obvious) reason...

as for the noise performance... ive read plenty of times that the noise performance is slightly better than the 50D, not sure about the 60 (but for me from a 40D, its going to be a decent upgrade...)

of course you can always wait for a new release but if theres a good year yet im happy to go for the 7D... my main reasons will be the video, better screen, and noise performance ;)

Check out canon outlet on ebay, few on there at the moment, bodys and lens kits with 18-135, as you can see prices vary.

The bottom two on there are mega cheap, the outlet bought these themselves, they were on buy it nows, and went within 10 secs of being listed.

I am really tempted by the 7D right now to compliment the 5D2. As great as the 5D is when it comes to IQ, it's prehistoric AF system is starting to limit me when I am not using it for anything static of slow moving.

Noise issues worries me as I shoot at ISO 3200 on the 5D2 without giving it a second thought and still get cleanish photos. The other option is the 1D4 which is around 3x the price :(

I'd be wary about buying from Canon's ebay outlet as they arent actually ran by Canon and is franchised off to a 3rd party company. They have a history of sending out faulty products and not replying to emails with customers resorting to resolution center most of the time to get a refund.

+1, and resorting to the resolution centre takes ages to get your money back.
Often such cameras have hard to diagnose issues, that happen periodically, often involving auto-focus.

Ive bought hundreds of things from the outlet(before they imposed 3 things every 3 months), i agree that you can get faulty things, small percentage slip through the net,i just send to canon uk with a note, they sort it out very quickly.

Id never email digital riever, although when you ring there pretty good and helpful.

Buy the 7D from a high street shop, any problems who can take it back and Canon UK will recognise the retail as a know distributor.
