8.5's out!

ok whats the general opinion on these then?

Anyone seen any increase in framerates and such?

3dmark/vantage scores gone up or down?

Any improvements for 2 x 3870x2 owners :D

Didnt get a chance to install lastnight, watched the footy and the apprentice

Yeah what are the framerate increases like generally? I'm liking the sound of the CoJ improvements as I really fancied giving it a replay.

Might try these with Vista again and pray that they actually allow me to run vista with the proper drivers (rather than crashing to blue screen on every boot).

Stalker improvement will have to be checked out as well :D

1080p24 support - good for HTPC/Blu-ray users :D

Might give Vantage a run now - couldn't be bothered to update to the hotfix driver for it.

1080p at 24hz? I've been able to run my TV from my 3870X2 (now gone) at 1080p 24hz since I bought it, I don't like it though, it doesn't seem very smooth at all, so I run it at 60Hz

read m8ty hence how it looks.Dont turn it into a NV v ATI thread pls.

Umm, I wasn't  I'm unsure how you came up with that conclusion. The poster of the pic never said which platform or gpu rendered that, and this is the last thread that I want to be dragged down to that level. :)
There was no hidden meaning or play on words in my post.

In fact; if you'd like to read yourself, Skippo has said
those graphics look ***p. Need to upgrade to NVIDIA imo.
hmmm~

WHat i would say about ATi drivers is, same as with Nvidia, some installs will be a bit random and cause some issues due to having something weird open while installing, or some AV that doesn't like the drivers or something going on. I've had issues getting ATi drivers installed on an amd chipset which is kind of stupid but thats life. I've had issues installing drivers and crashes at other times, but that can really happen with any driver at all.

THe main thing to look at is, once driver installing and any real problems have been sorted out and you've got the drivers installed as well as they ever will be, i have zero issues with ATi, but comparitively at the same point with Nvidia in the past 2 years i just will not have a stable system, no matter what happens it simply is not stable. That is where the difference is for me. Mostly its been an Nvidia drivers + Vista 64 bit thing, but thats terrible, its really the system to of gone for from Vista's release, Nvidia always had to go 64bit and always should have had stable drivers for it. ATi managed this for all past cards on vista 64 from release, and from the day of launch of the 2900xt there have been stable drivers for Vista 64.

It's ok, sorry for the misunderstanding. :o :)

How are you finding the 8.5's ?

I wasn't aware it wasn't supported or was supported because my TV can't do it.

Blu-Ray/HD-DVDs are recorded at 24fps which is why 1080p24 is useful - because you get stuttering otherwise e.g. at 60Hz when the camera pans. It's not that noticeable, only die hard av people would probably notice!!

You would probably only want it when you watch a film.

I'll get YOUR coat :)

As for the driver it's working fine here but I haven't used it much as I installed it and then turned off to watch the footy.

Been installing ati drivers from when the 1800xt came out so that's like 28 drivers sets give or take & only had 2 install problems & nothing else so that's good going.

Ive got a problem with the drivers I think..im very tired so it could just be me being an idot.

Installed the 8.5 drivers, now my desktop is messed up I'm using a Hyundai WD241D monitor, when I set eh resolution to 1900x1200 I get a black border round desktop, but if I set it to 1900x1080 it fills screen but flickers madly.

Was fine on 8.4, am i missing something?

Cheers
