8 Bay ITX Server

Will be watching this with interest as I currently run a HP Microserver that's becoming a little overwhelmed with what I'm trying to do.

It's well worth making the move, lot more custom options on the setup.

I was running a fractal array case previously. 5x 2TB drives. Raid 5. Ultra small ultra small power setup. Previous spec below. Sadly was forced to sell it as needed cash quickly. But i'm getting near needing a new one. Looking at the 4TB Seagate drives for a new build.

5x 2Tb Seagate drives
64gb Crucial C300 ssd SATA 6
8gb kingston hyperx 1600mhz
Scythe Shuriken Rev.B Quiet Low Profile CPU Cooler
Intel DH67CF/B3 mitx board
Fractal Design Array R2 Mini-ITX NAS Case, Black, with 300W SFX PSU
Intel I5 2500T 2.3 - 3.3ghz cpu retail LOW POWER 45W
Lian Li 5 port raid 5 controller PCI-E
Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard

Nice man, do it, make the move and invesment. I did the same selling old rig off to fun the move. Never looked back.

Love the little case and love the storage space! Would love something like this :) maybe if I can repurpose an old AMD rig I have at home over summer!

Summer is here, do it now man!

This looks like an awesome case but unfortunately its not really available in the UK. Do you know how much customs and import duties are going to cost?

Please update us once you get this. I am very keen to get one of these if all goes well.

Thanks

Can only update this once it's landed but it's being sent via Fedex and so far nothing shows for duties. It's coming from China.

It does look like a nice case, would also be interested on the cost after VAT etc.

Same as above dude, will et you all know here.

OcUK should stock those cases :(

Can only but ask. I want 10% for making them known!

Indeed, I'd certernly buy one ;)

ooo very snazzy!

I second that motion

Thanks lads, we will have to watch this space.

Sorry for lack of updates, been busy and letting this fester a little. She's on her way. Friday 24th is the given ETA.

Started to sort some of the parts last night that i have here currently ready. I need to make a list to check it all off.

I might also swing by Ikea and look at doing a Lack rack as seen here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18495550

VDSL, Mikrotik Router Board, 24 port gig switch, WIFI, NAS, PI, etc :)

Cheers

Those are some small 1080p files there. . . . mine average around the 10gb mark.

Network speed will be my next issue. 1Gb is fine until you want to move large amounts of the data. Teamed

Like the temps on the 2400 though. My 2500T idle'd just lower than that.

What do you think of the Fractel Design Node 304? I'm now considering both cases.

Also when the case arrives would you be able to take some pics of the backplane? Id be interested in what connection type is needed from the raid card. Normal Sata links or the other thing I can't remember the name of now. . . (bad as I work with the stuff all day long! no not sas) SFF leads. I'm wondering if it needs a SFF input or not.

I have the node 304 that I use as my main rig. Its pretty decent looking and for the money is a great deal. I have a H60 fitted to mine and is practically silent. It would definitely make a great media server and can fit 6 drives with no issues. If I didn't already have a Proliant Microserver I would buy another to use.

Ah interesting! Do you have all the drive bays installed? I am interested in the exact length from the PCI-E slot to the back of a drive installed in that last bay. I have a intel RS2SG244 raid card which i'm worried will hit the back of a drive so I wouldn't be able to insert the sata and power leads. . . .

Other question which psu did you use? I know length is an issue!

Sorry, i'm not hi-jacking this thread :-) just interested in the node 304 case too!

I only have 1 of the drive bays installed as it is just my main pc. I am using a corsair HX 650w psu with a GTX 650 TI and it fits fine. That said the GPU is pretty short and if its longer than an itx motherboard you will struggle. I have been told though that if you don't use a psu that is as long you can actually fit a gpu that reaches the front of the chassis.

Hope that helps.

Yeah you can install a 7970 length card with a psu shorter than 150mm. There are not that many! Ideally I want 6x4TB drives and an SSD. I got round the SSD space issue by the intel board that uses an msata ssd :-)

Looks like a great NAS case. I'm really interested in seeing this build come together.

Please just use the standard forum font though, I had to skim most of your text because it was too unpleasant to look at.

Cool, Look forward to seeing the pics once you open it up. Please could you update us with the import duties and taxes that were incurred.

Thanks

Nothing has come forward yet. Last item i had off Fedex was marked as $450 USD and never got anything and that was 13 months ago. This wa smakred as $150 USD and said it was a NAS case. We shall see.

I too am looking forward to some pics of the backplane. Id like to see what connection type is needed. That will make my choice between this and the node 304.

It uses SFF8087 as it comes with cables so you will need to use a RAID card. It also inc the small PCI-E cable to link mobo to raid card.

That's just what I needed to know! My raid card has 6x those SFF ports. 24 drive card. Hmm may have to get one then!

FedEx stung me for my wedding rings earlier this year. £7 tax plus their admin fee for £10.50! Annoyingly I had to return the rings, I asked the company not to use fedex again. Didn't get charged tax again.
