Hi all

So i have just upgraded my CPU from an AMD x2 255. Install the new Fx 8200 all went well activated all 8 cores was perfect untill i loaded battlefield 3 played for 10 minutes and big sparked and turned off. It had blown my psu i did notice before it blew my cpu was running at 65c. could this have been a faulty psu it was a cheap one which i bought to run my old x2 255 and it run perfectly on battlefield 3 or could this be some other problem. i have just ordered the Corsair CMPSU-650TXV2UK Enthusiast Series TX650 V2 High Performance 650W Power Supply. at the moment i have other old psu in and when i run games it seems to make a noice now and again coming from the psu like it is straining to keep up. the power supply i was using was 700w

Thanks
Kris

am not sure what make it was i bought it for £25 because my old one failed. the power supply i have in at the minute also seems to be making a noise when i load BF3 like it is going to blow again also this one is also quite cheap

true.

it was okay with my old processor tho so i dnt see why it blew it up after 5 mins of play with my new 8120

i have ordered this one : that okay?

Your PSU was likely in poor condition with previous CPU. Increased power usage revealed the true condition of the unit.

LOL, round 2 for your components. I only hope that I'm as lucky as you are if my PSU ever goes boom.

Yes I know it was stupid and I was lucky to get away wi just my psu blowing but could there be any other reason why it blew except cheap psu

Random faulty part in the PSU, but 99.99999999999999999999999999999999% because it's a ****** PSU.

If you're going to spend £25 on a PSU then maybe only get up to a 350W one with that money. At least it'll be a bit better quality.

High wattage and low cost don't go together, it might have said 700W PSU on the sticker but it couldn't ever deliver those ratings.

Just because the sticker says it's something doesn't mean it actually is.

if your £25 psu says it's a 700W PSU on the sticker it'l only deliver near that for about afew minutes before blowing .

realistic the psu is only 350-400w

also u got to hope it hasn't damaged anything

cheap psu's don't have good safety protection features

Don't feel too bad - we have (except for those among us who were born with 'the knowledge';)- not me I'm afraid !) all either been or nearly been there:eek:

If your very lucky a psu failure will only involve the purchase of a new psu but they have been known to cost new motherboard/cpu etc.:(

Overall , as advised by all the other posters , cutting costs in this area can be very, very expensive; so not to be recomended !

Corsair psu's have a good rep. and should be good for a few years

If I were you and your running 'el cheapo' pending receipt of the corsair I would either reduce the load as much as I could or just not take the risk!!
