8200 Blew PSU

Corsair 650 with a 53amp single rail will be fine with any single graphics card. I had a similar experience to you with a cheapo 850w psu until i saw the light and switched to the 750w corsair. The one bit of advice i would follow from this place is to buy the best psu you can afford.

All power supplies will fail at some point.
If you are lucky, a cheap PSU will last 10 years.
If you are unlucky an expensive PSU will die in 6 months.
Quality PSUs, in general, tend to last longer and regulate power better than the cheaper brands.
yes but also cheapo no branded psu's don't have good safety protections features like the quality psu's do

so when a cheapo no branded psu blows it most likely will take some other hardware with it.

Hmm, let's see...

CPU ~£140
GPU ~£170+
RAM ~£40
+MOBO

Yep a 700W PSU for ~£25 will top it off nicely, job done.

This

Why the hell do people think that it is ok to match a naff £20 PSU up with expensive top end PC parts  The attitude seems to be 'oh, it has 700w written on it so it'll be ok'. Wrong wrong wrong, don't buy cheapo cruddy PSU's people

This is one of my pet hates in case you hadn't noticed :p

I see.
I have only ever blown 1 PSU (Antec, good quality) and when it blew with a very loud bang, my other computer parts were safe.

I can't comment on cheaper PSUs destroying other components when they blow, as I've never experienced this.

I think rather than concentrating on price, we need to look at the brand (name) & model as well. A bad brand/model will quickly develop a bad reputation, allowing the users to avoid that particular PSU.

Where possible, I always buy Antec PSUs as I have had very good personal experiences with them. But that's not to say that another brand won't do just as good a job.

Correct

I remember a few years ago everyone was recommending the Hiper PSU's, until they all started going bang :p

Usually the price is a good indicator of the quality of components used but not always. Always do a bit of research on the forums / review sites before buying a PSU.

At the end of the day, it connects to every part of your PC so a cheap one going bang has the potential to be very damaging indeed.

LOL.
Well it serves them right for buying a bad CPU.
They should've bought Intel, especially after so much info was given regarding the high power usage and low IPC of the BD.

Hopefully this incident will teach the OP a lesson. :p

Poor old AMD get blamed for everything these days, even people buying **** PSU's it seems :p
