So after about 11 months of use my 840 Pro seems to have had a bit of a mid-life crisis. Last night It flatly refused to boot for no apparent reason and after much messing around today it's booting but only grudgingly.

Last night it was hanging on the windows splash screen indefinitely, and now it's taking a good 30 seconds at that point before it gets through into the OS.

No new programs installed recently, nothing changed or downloaded, no overheating or anything obvious that I can think of.

Any suggestions? My only guess is that windows has somehow bricked itself but if I could avoid reinstalling that would be great.

do you have any other drives? if so disconnect them and see if it boots like before, I had a similar problem and it was my data drive

So it's not the other drives but I did find some odd behaviour.

I tried the 840 in the other slots of the hot-swap caddy in my 800D and had the same problem (with all other drives removed) but when I tried the drive connected direct to the motherboard it went back to normal, instant boot.

Is it possible the hot-swap board on the 800D is buggered in some way and that's causing the issues? If so, why is it only affecting this SSD and not the other SSD or 2 mechanical drives which are in there.

The other drives work in that slot in the bay though. I will have to take it to bits and see if I can find anything loose but it seems like a very odd thing to happen to a case that's only 10 months old. It hasn't been moved or even touched internally in 3 months so why would something suddenly spring loose?
