8400 turbo on all cores?

Just need to somehow find a Z370 board for B360 prices, and that's an incredible bundle. Finding the reasonably priced RAM could be a hassle though.

I found some ram 2800mhz 16GB cheap just waiting for it to turn up.

I didn't min paying for a z motherboard I got the Z370 AORUS Gaming 3 seemed good price and comes with steam voucher, I want the option to overclock in the future maybe pick up a second hand 8600k-8700-8700k to drop in there at some point.

Currently looking at the 8400 for my nephews PC, hes got an nvidia 1060 but running an AMD FX4300 isn't cutting the mustard. Overclockers have stock today but the price is all wrong, supply and demand I know, but Im not paying £215 for a $182 chip. The 8400 should be a no brainer for a budget gaming PC but the lack of availability pushing up the CPU price, the non existent B3xx series mainboards and the slightly bonkers RAM prices at moment are making it a much weaker proposition.

Yeah it's madness. Intel should have waited and hard launched at CES. Early next year will be the time to buy.

Retailers are taking the mickey a bit. Fortunately i got one the last few available from a competitor for the correct rrp (£170) a few weeks ago (funnily enough for my newphews PC also!). Now anywhere that has stock seems to want ~£200.

It really is a mickey take on the CPU front. I actually don't mind getting the Z370 motherboard, its fully featured and the very cheapest ones aren't that expensive. There are a bunch of reviews out there that show the cheap ones are pretty much as capable as boards twice the price. The RAM pricing bothers me but it is what it is a the moment, the suppliers are charging more hence the retailers are. I do suspect however on the CPU front, the retailers a currently price gauging when they have stock.

It's not really the retailer's fault. I was talking with Gibbo the other day when he getting grilled about backed up orders and out of the order of hundreds he placed only about 30 chips shipped. OcUK can't do anything about that.

I understand the retailers are not getting the stock from the distro's, but when they get 30 instead of 100, are they also having to pay much higher price, I would be surprised. I work in operations, in the same scenario we would not expect a price hike along side back order delivery.

BY the way, how is the 8400 ? is your nephew is using it for gaming ?

yeh. It's great. Was torn between that and a similarly priced 1600 but i thought the extra single core performance would help more in gaming (especially as it has 6 cores anyway) and also he might use it for DAW/Music stuff in future and at the moment Zen has some big latency issues with that sort of thing (or so i have read). It is the reason i will be overlooking Zen until it is sorted as well as i do lots of that sort of thing.

snagged one on the MM and there was another on there too for similar amount £165. only been out a week or two and they aren't a K chip so with no overclocking there is no risk of them being fried

Yeah I got the other for £160, can't be nothing wrong with one really and they still have 3 year warranty on them.

I wouldn't normally buy anything for pc second hand but I never heard of a cpu really breaking and not much you can do wrong with one really especially a locked one.

Never thought to check the MM, being so new I didn't expect any to be on there, missed a trick. I'll keep an eye out for others. I note that some retailers have now changed their expected delivery date from Nov2 to Nov 30 !
Intel simply playing the game, soft launching to try and canabilise AMD sales.

When coffeelake first launched people were buying the 8400 to build there rig while they waited for stock of the 8700k

They changed into 30th that's a big wait if you was expecting it on the 2nd glad I got mine coming already.
