8600gt 512mb DDR2 for Physx? Worth it?

An 8600 doesn't support physX does it? I thought only 9800 and above? Plus it will be shocking anyway. I had a 440 when I did hybrid PhysX
From what I recall it should ideally be a G92 or later chip.

Anyway to the OP, the easiest way to check if you got PhysX enabled is to run GPU-Z I think, and see if the PhysX box got checked.

I can't remember how, but I got it working with my HD6950 and a 8600GTS 256MB card with a Q6600 cpu at 3.2GHz.
Results were underwhelming!
3DMark vantage does work with GPU physx and I have tried Batman AA but the performance was less than with just 6950.
So I obviously put the 8600gts back in the cupboard.

Cheers guys, My main aim is just to get it working, I know this would be crap on the card now but I want to get it all running for science.

I do have the boxes ticked in gpu-z, on both my 3870 and 8600gt interestingly enough. however when running benchmarks I can see no gpu utilisation, while the cpu is flat out. so something isn't right. Fluidmark also shows that the CPU is doing the Work.

All I can think of is there is an issue with drivers etc so Ill strip them all out and start over again the next time I have a few hours for another play.

PysX is supported on the 8600gt btw, I think it is actually the lowest card it will work on according to Nvideas site at any rate. Looking around a 550ti seems to be one of the cheapest new cards to get it working on, but it's still 100ish, maybe some old tech will match that at a lower cost.
