8700K 4700MHZ hits abnormal temps in Assassin Origins

MCE on Asus boards can actually be quite useful providing you still set the voltage manually. Leaving it on with some boards means that you don't have to alter the power settings to avoid power based throttling. Manually setting the voltage overrides the voltage MCE would try to set, so it's still critical to change this.

This is the case for many Asus boards, but it may not be the same on others or boards from different manufacturers.
 
The MCE on Asus boards is great, never had a temperature issue with it. With the Asus Z370 I've simply set all cores to 4.7ghz and set SVID to "best case scenario" which puts decent voltage through the chip and keeps the temps very reasonable for automatic overclocking. "Worst case scenario" seems to be the default though and puts way too much voltage through, my chip ran 10c to 15c higher with "worst case scenario".

And tbf m8, at 4k gaming the cpu frequency matters a lot less so you're better off with the better temps :)
