So bit the bullet and upgraded my Haswell system to Coffee Lake. Just got done building and rehooking up my EK loop.

Threw in a quick couple of overclocks - Im stable at 5.2Ghz with out any messing around, on 1.3V and 80C under stress load (Max temp hit 83).

So - Im going to keep going but i just read so much that these chips run hot, and that they need 1.4v... and even de-lidding to get anything decent. Is this just a load of crap or did i get a good chip?

:)

Very good going, especially to hit 5.2 at 1.3v (if it's properly stable). What's the rest of the hardware? As Doug said a delid would see some nice gains.

Yeah that's a golden chip for sure. I can get 5ghz at 1.4v which i use 24/7 as it's delidded. Max temps are low 60's on a 240mm AIO.

Only tested with Realbench for a couple hours, all went well - but i guess i spoke too soon as i did get a couple crashes on BFV. Upped the vcore to 1.35, its running at 85C but peaked 93c under stress after an hour -

....although i did whack my old numbers back on to Precision x1 on the 2080 without starting from scratch again on the new system, so i probably want to stop skipping some steps and spend some time on this, as it may have been the GPU causing the crash during BFV.

8700k @ 5.2Ghz
EK supremacy block 280 + 120 Rads
RTX2080 FE @ 2055Mhz
Asus Maximus Hero X
16GB G.Skill 3000mhz Trident Z
AX860i PSU

Can i tell the batch number without taking off the block? - can CPUZ read it?

AVX off-set is 0

I'm pretty jealous of that, so congrats!

My delidded 8700k manages [email protected] with -2AVX. Max temps of 70 on a 280mm AIO. I had hoped to keep the voltage lower as I dont feel totally comfortable at 1.4.

I previously had it at 1.38 but seems to have became unstable over time.

ElBurge can you get it to pass Time spy extreme cpu test?

I'm sure 8pac said 1.4v on a delidded 8700k is fine with an AIO. I will try and find the post

5.2ghz at 1.3v is golden sample territory, you won out big time, if it really is truly stable, congrats.

The lack of intel official voltage is annoying for CL, but based on previously published intel data, I personally consider anything over 1.4v as unsafe for long term 24/7 use.

I would only use 1.4+ if (a) I had water cooling and (b) the seller guaranteed the voltage to be good for 5 years period.

I also came from haswell and for me personally the chip has the same temperature ranges. I think (it runs hot) mentality came from those throwing stupid high voltages at it.

Some might say there is 2 extra cores so needs more voltage, that may be so, but haswell ran happily for me at 1.15v so 1.3v is already an increase.
