8700k Questions

For me, even with a 1070 it was worth it. The 1700 didn't have the balls for 144hz at 1080p nor 1440p tbh.
What reviewers won't show you is how they compare in multiplayer games. You should certainly see a difference with a 1080. They are warm buggers though, I delidded mine.

The boards only start to come into their own when overclocking but even so that prime has proven to be a decent board. Don't worry about the ram, the IMC is very good on the 8700k.
You'll be able to hit XMP speeds with no issue I reckon.

I have no problem spending a little more. What board do you recommend?

The Prime is quite cheap if you look around.

Was looking at the Taichi but I don't like the look of the BIOS and I am used to Asus's now.

If money isn't a problem then I have no issues recommending the hero x. I love this board but truthfully its massive overkill. I can run my CPU at 5.0ghz and memory at 4000mhz without issues on this board but as I said probably overkill for most.
Unfortunately with ASUS its pretty much go top end or go home now, the strix boards aren't that much cheaper than the maximus tbh.
I've heard good things about the gigabyte boards too.

I just had a Google for that mobo. It's not silly expensive but around £90-100 more than the Prime.

Even the Prime will allow me to reach a decent overclock on both CPU and run memory at XMP? I won't be deliding and I will stick with my 3200MHz ram.

Sure it will, I've seen the prime do 5.0ghz without issues. Since you are not delidding you are looking at 4.7/4.8 ghz. The prime will be fine :)
