8800GT 256mb Alpha Dog XXX Edition

Waste of time buying any 256mb card in this day and age if you are a gamer.

Id like to see a comparison of FPS achieved at 1400x900 res between two identical cards, one with 256mb and one with 512mb.

Correct me if im wrong but im sure the 256mb version of some cards like X1800XT and 7800GTX were faster at lower resolutions than the 512mb equivalent.

I game at no higher than 1440x900, but obviously if textures cannot cope with 256mb then theres no point in getting one.

256MB was normal back then 512MB was a luxury now its normal.

The old RES Rule Of Thumb I mentioned above does not count now as Textures etc suck up more and more Vmem.

I would not buy a 256MB card, if you do thats your choice but dont say you dont care about AA or AF cause then the games look like a Xbox 360's, so you may as well but a console.

He said its the same as the alphadog 512mb only with 256mb so 1950 MHz mem and 670 MHz core

I've had confirmation that my Alpha Dog XXX 256MB shipped today from a competitor. It's due to be delivered tomorrow - only trouble is that I'm out until midday

I also wondered which specs are correct. XFX quote the clock rate as 650 MHz and the memory as 1.6GHz whereas several sites quote these as 670 & 1950 respectively. I'll post as soon as the card is received.
