Hello Motors

Due to there being exactly 5 decent S2000s for sale in the whole UK at the moment, I am taking the time to explore other options before making a final decision.

Looking for the following:
quick
fun
good handling
not fwd
not an rx8

at the risk of this going downhill fast when Nath starts posting, what would you suggest I test drive over the next few weeks.

suggestions welcomed :)

this is potentially on the list. I need to look into it as the choices seem more abundant for sure.

Impreza STi
thought about it, not sure what my budget can get

I like evos and imprezas, im just not sure what to look for with them and i dont think 8k will get me much. am i wrong?

again, all down to budget. 8k only seems to get rotter modded examples covered in ebay tat and nothing that looks to have been kept stock.
or they have astro miles.

feel free to chime in with autotrader/PH links

I don't need a car, but it would be useful for weekends. I'm just wanting alternatives so I can go and test drive the options. That way if something wows me then I have more options.

Why not buy one of the 5?

Probably out of budget :p

Essentially, yeah. They are all a bit on the dear side. Plus nothing is less than 100 miles away.

I don't fancy travelling over 100 miles to view a car that isn't really what I want.

Orange/yellow facelifts seem to be rarer than hens teeth.
Then the GT variant, even more so

How much have you driven an S2000 rich, out of interest?

I'd consider the 350Z too if it was a daily drive, its more refined, much more spacious and actually has some toys. But as a weekend toy I think the S2000 is cracking.

Around an hour seat time. About thirty mins per and post facelift. Never driven a post 06 car though so that is on the agenda if there is one close.

I'm not fussed about distance. There just isn't anything to me worth travelling 100+ miles for. Hence why I am asking about alternatives. Just so I have looked at everything.

If I was going BMW, it would be an E46. I just don't feel that my budget would allow me to get a car I would be happy with.

Could you tell me where? :D
Actually I'm looking for a GT with hardtop.

This is out of my price range but a perfect spec :(

This is a good spec but ultimately the colour is a bit boring.

This is nice too but its silver...

This I had considered going to view 2 weeks ago. They have told me there is a deposit down on the car a week ago but the ad is still up :o

there was a lovely 05 the other week too which i was going to view this weekend just gone but it sold in the week before i could get there.

the market is currently awash with people asking summer prices for pre facelift, sheddy high milers.

I know of one not advertised for sale anywhere at the moment though, he was going to swap my civic + cash his way for it so i could potentially get a bargain. will have to see what the weekend brings.

as i said with the last one, they told me it had a deposit put down on in.

I'm putting a deposit on one in nottingham today :)
hopefully picking up tomorrow.

edit*
upon speaking to the garage this morning. some absolute weapon has decided to equip the front of the vehicle with a pair of 'Autoguard' tyres at an astonishing £40 a tyre.

currently negotiating how much discount this will net me...

Autoguards on the front, that's one way to deal with the S2000s notoriously savage oversteer ;)

:D lol yes.

So tell us about the one you are buying :)

I know your first purchase will be tyres!

its a march 06 registered car, so very last of the cheaper tax bracket
moonrock grey GT
black leather interior
everything standard, no mods at all.
full honda history
50k on the clock.
they are taxing and MOTing it as part of the purchase.

I have managed to avoid all the BS they are trying to add on with the extra insurances. The dealership fitted the fail tyres and basically knocked me £200 off so I can go and buy some decent tyres for the front.
tyres on the rear are the OE potenzas but I may change these and take the opportunity to buy a new set of tyres. [suggestions welcome s2000 owners]

it was a tad expensive but i think given the market and age/condition, it is what i wanted overall. so hopefully, there wont be any issue with it when i see the car in the metal friday morning and i will have some pictures for you all.

From what I understand, the OE rear size is discontinued for the AS2.

I have seen them in a few places. My plan is to assess the bridge stones on the rear. If they are decent then I will get some matching tyres for the front. If they are shabby, then I will wade in on a set of decent tyres for the whole car.

Lots of conflicting reports on S2KI so I'm not exactly sure what the best course of action is yet tbh

I did think AD08R tbh

Sizes from the s2ki FAQ:
215/45/17 front
245/40/17 rear

Been reading the thread on the forums and there is a lot to absorb so will give it a proper read through.

Well, got the car yesterday. Will grab some pictures of it today.

The front tyres are shockingly bad. How they can confirm to any legal standard is beyond me.

I have done the sensible thing. The rear tyres are the RE050MZ variant and have loads of tread left. So I have ordered matching fronts. This was the sensible option IMO as they are the most used in the tyre thread on the S2Ki forum. The MZ version is the Honda OE fit tyre for 2004+ cars so I feel that it makes sense.

I would have liked to try the 002 but sadly they only make it in the size for the front wheels. Also, AS2 are end of life in the rear size.

I plan on getting some wheels for the car at some point. So will most likely get a set of AD08R to put on them.

Will post up some pictures and a few early impressions later today
