I wasn't surprised so much about her death but how I found out.
I'd been picked up by my mate at 8:50 to go to Trentham Gardens Computer Fair.
These were the days of real geekdom and we'd spend hours talking to other old blokes.
We came home at 1pm and my wife was watching the TV.
It was then that I realised Diana had died and my mate already knew but didn't think of mentioning it and I'm pretty sure a % of the people we spoke to would have known to.
I'm still amazed now that nobody mentioned it in 4 hours.

My wife's crazy friend woke us up at some ungodly hour to tell us, I went back to sleep.

I was angry at Diana's mainly because her funeral was on the 1st ****** day of our holiday in Devon & everything was shut..!!

Didn't care one bit before that.!

Yeah, some rather unsavoury ones if I recall.

My wife thought she was talking about a friend of ours to begin with and had a few choice words for her also when it was clear it was just some celebrity. It was one of the few times I have heard my Wife swear at someone.
 
I was in school as this happened.. year 8 iirc... I remember that day I went to my mates house straight after school, we caught a small glimpse of this on TV but just went straight on the Dreamcast he'd just bought.. I can only remember then going home and watching TV for it to hit home what had actually happened :(

I still watch clips on YT from time to time.. every time I see it.. it still doesn't prepare me for the next time I see it.. my jaw still drops every time.
