£900,000 to paint a plane?

The fact that this makes news is annoying.

900k is pennies in the aviation industry. If it needs an update - it needs an update. Get over it.

That's a very Cold War way of looking at things.

Yeap I agree, but thats was the purpose of keeping it as a Tanker, as per the original question "Is the plane going to still be used for refuelling?" - Yes it will, but only if the Poop hits the fan.

These days, the bigger risk is from a protest group with a few drones or scaling an airport fence with some paint.

Which would still happen regardless of paint scheme so whilst, it's a valid point, it makes no difference regarding the question posed above.

Well it's taxpayers money, it should be used responsibly and the public deserves transparency. The media making a bottom of itself is inevitable, especially with the talentless hacks that plague the industry. It's practically impossible for the average pleb to get involved, as the double kick in the face that is unpaid/underpaid internships and a particularly toxic level of privilege endeavours to keep media a hobby, rather than a profession.

Honestly can't tell if it was intended or not.

Hopefully, this plane it will disassociate the flag with the fat right which is the biggest problem.
Currently flying the British flag is seen as a racist or far right icon. Doing these things would lessen the view and make the flag more user friendly, it is a nice design.

Looks spot on

just enough British pride without going too far

seems most people are positive about it as well

if it fires up any sort of national pride and claims the union flag as a symbol for the country to get behind then regardless of cost it’s money well spent

No it isn't, you sure you're not thinking of the St George's Cross?

Agreed, it's not over the top at all, in fact I think it looks very clean and professional.

Union Jack seen as racist by some in this country. I hope the correct use will lessen the myths of this, creating a positive image of the UK.

I think you need to work on your ability to distinguish which articles to take seriously and which to discard as clickbait, that's clearly just a load of toss.

We shouldn't be ashamed to wave our own flag. But if you display an England flag now you get accused of being "racist" by NPCs

No I pointed out the reasons why. Unfortunately the St George's cross has been hijacked by the worst kind of scummy racists and unfortunately (and sadly I might say as I used to regularly fly the St George's cross and plaster it all over my house) people see people displaying the England flag as them potentially being a racist. Nowadays there is a pretty high chance they will be right which is why none racist English people have shied away from displaying the flag as they don;t want to be seen as being a racist.

That then leads to a much high percentage of the people left displaying the England flag as being racists which just reinforces people's perceptions.

It was the same for Hindus and Bhuddists when the Nazis started using the Swastika. Would you still happily fly a swastika flag as a Hindu in the years that followed WW2?

Would the media moan if they needed to buy a new engine?

Anyone care to guess the cost of one new engine?

No, but I would expect the media to moan if a perfectly good engine which was bought only 4 years earlier for £23m and was expected to last 10 years was then swapped with another engine just because Boris felt like a change................

Thankfully your twisted ill-informed view that Boris on a whim will ask for a new engine will not happen.

It's left to professionals to ascertain if the engine is serviceable or not.

Well thank god for that! As I was answering Paul_RD who asked if the media would have moaned if Boris had wanted a change of engine. I am glad to hear BJ wont be asking for a new engine on a whim. But the fact still stands I would expect our media to rip him a new one if he had asked for a new engine just like they are over the paintjob.

So from your ill informed post I assume that Boris left it to the professionals to decide to repaint it with the Union Flag so it couldn't no longer do its day job which millions was spent on kitting it out for? And he left it to the professionals to decide it needed a paint job after only 4 years when the previous paint job should have last 10 years? I hope the inept company who repainted 4 years ago are going to be made to redress the hash they made of the last paint job?

In which case I would like to see these professionals punished for wasted tax payers money. Hopefully they will be sacked as they deserve to be.
