£900,000 to paint a plane?

I think it's a great idea, what image does it portray turning up to negotiate multi-£billion trade deals in a drab grey jet. It needs a lick of paint anyway so what's the hurt

Non-issue really, unless you're a Daily Mail reader and/or Labour voter

This is the current interior for the VIP section of the Voyager -

The aircraft compartment that the PM, Queen, people representing the UK to foreign dignitaries etc currently uses is just a bog standard "1st class" compartment from any airline - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...m-force-one-vip-jet-for-ministers-and-royals/

The refit will make the aircraft kind of 'equivalent-ish' to the US Air Force One, not just by adding a bespoke interior more fitting for the people who use it (and hosting foreign dignitaries onboard too), but by also adding a whole raft of new electronic comms systems and upgrades currently missing from the generic Tanker/Transport version of Voyager, allowing the the post-refit aircraft to have secure comms back to the UK and be better used as an "airborne command post" more effectively than the current fleet (again, a bit like Air Force One).

As to some of the other "technical" stuff written on here, I would suggest that the vast majority is written by people with either no real-world experience or "I read it from the web" types i.e. "Anti-Radar paint" etc.

Planes are repainted regularly anyway as part of maintenance. Complete non-story. On the plus side it makes the UK look more professional globally which is a good thing.

It's not going to cost £100 like painting a room... it's a plane.

Should bring this livery back from the 90's, job done

we could have one each. saltire flag down the side would look not bad.

so it got a conversion 4 years at the tune of 10 million, now it needs another refit and a paint job for £900k.

i couldn't really care that the government are spending the money. I would hazard a guess that its coming out the defense budget. but i would like to see the before and after.

Yeah, plus most of the cost is the refit as above. Why would we not want our government and representatives that are making trade deals and representing the UK on an international level to actually have the correct equipment to do their role. This is benefits everyone including future governments.
