i just hit 69f i was gaming but just want to check is that temp okay?
as i have been using laptops for so long i am not too sure if the temp is too high. my 5850 hit 60f max as well

69F is extremely low....

69C is way to hot.... don't want to go over 55c really ... especially not into the 60's....

sorry i did mean 69c :(
that not good then?
what can i do to keep the temps down?

as all 4 cores hit 69c (156f) i have a CPU cooler on it as well so not sure why the temps are getting so high - maybe buy a better Thermal Paste? as i am use the one that come with the cooler

by the way i am using Hardware Monitor to check the temps - is that good to use or is there something better? as the temps on here seem to jump around just a second ago it went from low 40s right into mid 50s

If your using the stock cooler and thermal paste your temps should be still under 50c when gaming.... im using the stock one right now and im floating upto 50 and down to 35ish ....

I would buy some new thermal paste and reapply it... making sure you take all of the old paste off the fan and cpu itself.... maybe a new fan if you feel like spending a bit of money

Temps do change a lot --- BIOS of course is the reliable place to check temps but you can't be gaming at the time . i use hwmonitor myself

i just bought the cooler so i think it should be fine, i will get some paste and reapply it.
it could also have something to do with a lot of stuff happening in background
as it ussually doesnt go above 60 so i will leave it alone to finish
i will then reset Hardware Monitor and see what temps i get

what paste do you reccommend?

:)

Need to get a new cooler myself really - want to try do some OC and i was just rendering a vid - 90% cpu usage with the 955be and got upto 59c temps

Cheers, i am going to wait til i get my Soundcard as well - that way i wont have too take it apart too often.
i think its more about whats going on in the background for the high temps so i wont be gaming until its finished as i have loads of files being moved, things getting installed and AV check being run so maybe a bit too much for the CPU temps when im gaming at the same time

i think it could very well had something to do with all the stuff going on in the background.
so i have decided that i will wait and see what temps are like gaming when no other apps are running in the background

I am assuming you are not overclocked and everything is at stock settings?

Check that your mobo is not overvolting the chip. Too much vcore will always cause high cpu temps.

MX-3 is significantly better than Arctic silver 5, MX-2 and the Noctua paste are the easiest to spread, MX-3 is supposed to be a bit better, but harder to spread. I got the Noctua paste when I got mem a bit ago and it was very easy to apply.

For reference with a IFX14, noctua paste I recently got a 555Be, unlocked two cores, whacked it to 4Ghz while overvolted and it doesn't break 50C under load with a silent fan on the sink, which while very good isn't the best out there. At stock I wasn't going above about 42-43c load.

As for cleaner, go to your local chemist, ask for a bottle of isopropyl alcohol for cleaning electronics, they always bung me a huge bottle for 50p, add to a box of cotton buds and you'll have enough stuff to clean 100's of CPU's for years for a quid.

I got the above and applied - when should i start to stress the system and how long will it take before i notice temp drops? if i knew MX-3 was better then i would have gone for that, i will see how this does and if i see no improvement i will have a look for some MX-3

Hi

Exactly what heat sink cooler are you using. ? Checked but did not find it in the thread. ?

For gaming of a high level you need a quality one. Maybe try adding another fan to the other side for a push pull config or something.

Best of luck
