95th Oscars

Easily the stand out film for me this year was Banshees, so disappointed it didn’t win anything.

EEAAO was good, could’ve been better with a different final act, but ultimately it’s scifi which the Oscars usually don’t touch with a barge pole.

Hugh Grant's interview at this - magic

God i wish the media landscape/Hollywood etc had more of that. A bit more genuine cynicism and it being fine to not be insipidly and disingenuously enthusiastic about everything and everyone.

Ehh...Kind of agree with the sentiment here, EEAAO was OK, but it didn't particularly bowl me over. I'm fine with the performers getting their wins though; I would've preferred Banshees to get Best Picture. Aftersun also hit me like no other film in years, so I would've liked that to get something, but the only real contender was Paul Mescal for Best Actor, and it was quite an understated performance, so I'm not surprised it didn't win that one.

Count me as another that thought EEAAO was good, but not that good. Perhaps watching it in the cinema without my partner falling asleep next to me may have helped. I generally enjoy films more at the cinema, without the distractions of home. I certainly didn't think the performances were worthy of any plaudits to be honest... Cate Blanchett was robbed.

I think they should have embraced what the Top Gun effect was for cinema itself, and had that win best pic.

I cut work early, lost out on half a day's work for 3 guys, while them still getting their full pay, so that I could go see banshees at cinema 1.30pm last week and then elvis after.

I thought banshees was an absolute bore. Nothing good about it at all other than the place it was filmed, but the island didn't get enough appreciation imo.

For me this was the best film I've watched and wished it'd won best film. I was so surprised at how much that hit me. Everything about it was brilliant, even the way it doesn't spoon feed you what happens, with the outcome and reasons etc being vague but subtle hints.

I only just watched it last week, but want to watch it again as soon as its available on a service I use.

Will be interesting what the two main guys behind EEAAO will make with the 5 year Universal Studios deal. Surely they will be able to get access to large budgets now that their movie just dominated the Oscars.

Hmmm, I guess its just me, but after the big build up of beinbg a x7 oscar winner I decided to watch EEAAO. watched the first 30 mins of it and I had zero interest in ANY of the characters, or what was happening or why...as did my brother. Turned it off and watched "the guard" with Gleeson in it, very entertaining.

Not unusual with the best picture winner tbh.

Look back at the last 10 years and see howany you've watched and also enjoyed/will rewatch.

But remember, the film only won 1 Oscar for best picture, not 7. So it doesn't mean its 7 times better than other movies.

Best supporting actor doesn't always = an even great film.

I am still excited to watch everything everywhere soon
