Does anyone know manufacturers safe operating temp limit for the 970 (specifically gigabyte G1 gaming) and what temp it would throttle at?

I am using them in SLI and getting a top of 80/70 which is dumping a lot of heat in my case. If its safe I'm not going to worry.

Wondering if I need to look at getting another case instead. I really like my setup not just performance but the aesthetics..

Currently I have an NZXT S340 but wondering if I should get an HAF case?
Or I could put an intake fan on the side window?

A fan on the side set to exhaust might help. I have the same issue with the cards in sig. Temps of upto 79/65 with a custom fan profile. I'm thinkingof cutting a hole for a fan in my case window.

Well I've been using with an exhaust fan and it's not much different. However a colleague had told me he had the same issue and an intake fan was a lot more effective.

Try the fan as intake, id be interested in seeing your results as your cards are similair in design to mine. Whats your boards pcie slot spacing like too?

This is my first foray into SLI so can't compare but it's an ASUS Maximus VII Ranger

There's one slot between them. Gonna have to drill some holes for it after some testing later this week. I will be updating this thread though.

I got over this by putting a 120mm fan at the rear of the cards blowing between them. This dropped the temperature around 10 degrees when cards are working at full tilt. I lost my side panel with fans because I changed it for an acrylic panel and there was a massive difference so this is how i solved my issue.

I've got two 120mm fans behind the cards, on the hdd cages but not visible in the above pic. Hasn't made a big difference tbh.

It's really down to the airflow. If you have decent front/bottom intake fans, then the fan on the side-panel as exhaust would be more effective; but if you don't have sufficient air-intake in the first place, then the fan on the side-panel might spin, but it wouldn't have much to exhaust as heat need air move/travel.

So back to fans. What size AirFlow fan should one be looking at for a side window?
Any suggestions for exact fan to use for intake onto GPUs? I was thinking of getting a 200mm or a 140mm.

Silverstone air penetrator fans are good for intake. Though I think they're 120 and 140mm only.

Yea Setter the ranger is the same spacing

IMO a 200mm fan would look horrible, I'd go with a 140. We seem to have quite similar setups so will be interesting to see the temps when your done.
