I reckon it will be around £420 for us. Looks like a good card if they sort all of the issues but I'm not sure if it will be worth it over the X2.

I would have guessed the drivers performance wise should be pretty mature now, afterall this is just 8800GTS SLI so no new tech.

I expect new drivers will just fix the teething issues like not being able to run AA etc.

Hopefully, £300-350, it's ment to be going to $599 in the US so I think £420 is little much, definintely not worth it.

It can't be £420.........as it would be much cheaper to just buy two 8800gts cards and SLI them...

Can't wait for some proper in depth detailed benchies from the likes of anandtech or xbitlabs etc, not some of these that are surfacing early

As for price, bear in mind everyone paid a premium for GT's at launch compared to the RRP, also talk of 2 x GTS in SLI v a single card isn't relevant to a hell of a lot of people, I'm sure most people want one card in their rig and couldn't care less about SLI and Crossfire etc due to power, heat, compatability, support etc, etc, all they want is a screwdriver, open case, install and walk away knowing that at worst they may have to use drivercleaner before installing new drivers

When X2 came out it was £280-300, Crossfire 3870's would have only cost about £250 then.

So it didn't stop ATi, and it isn't stopping them now.

Plus you have to factor in that the GX2 is a far more complex card to build than the GTS, not to mention the fact that it requires extra components PCI-E spliter, the integrated SLi bridge, and the more expensive cooling solution.

So you think this card is not going to draw the same power as two 8800gts in sli or give out the same heat as two 8800gts sli and not have the same SLI compatability problems...

Isn't a 30" monitor a bit big for gaming on unless you're going to have your monitor about 4 or 5 feet away on a wall? Otherwise I think a sore neck would surface!

I myself would still go for the 3870x2 just because of the huge asking price of the 9800gx2, but as others have said I think these figures can be taken with a pinch of salt. If the figures come out at a good percentage better as in 50% or more then it might be worth the outlay in my eyes. If I had to take my own money though I'd go to buy the 9800gx2 and veer off and buy the 3870x2 at the last minute after consulting my financial advisor.

Best thing is to wait a few months til the price drops, until then 3870x2.

Was pretty obvious that it would beat the X2, the single GTS is faster than the single 3870, so 2x GTS's would be faster than 2x 3870's, don't have to be a genius to work that one out. :p

You may as well just buy 2x single GTS's and SLi em, as your gona save £100+ quid, jesus that must be some expensive gaffa tape they using to stick em together. :D

Other thing i'd like to see is what performance you can get for your money.

By which I mean, say somone has £400 to spend.

Assume the GX2 is going to be £400 at release, so they can get one of those...

or

For £400 you could get an X2 = £250 + XT = £125 = £375

or

For £400 you could get 2 x 8800GTS 512s @ ~£175/each = £350

Which is faster then... Tri-Fire, the GX2, or SLi 8800GTS's...

Or three 8800gt in Tri -SLI ;) for about £390

x2 for around £250 is definately good bang for buck :P i think the only problem is gonna be if the price comes in at something ridiculous for the GX2! I mean if you want the fastest available your gonna have to pay for it!

But thats always been the way... The X2 wasnt exactly peanuts when it came out either. You always pay a premium for the top card, suprised people are whining to much tbh, theyve seen it happen enough times.

Cant have 3 8800GT's in Tri SLi.

If the 9800GX2 is going to retail at around 350+ I doubt its worth it over the 3870X2 by the looks of those results, but we'll obviously have to wait for newer drivers.

is anyone else as fussy as me.... first few pictures all i could think was "dear god take off that plastic sheet" :p i HATE those things being left on

that's what i noticed too mate :)

its stupid when people have a new phone and leave that on for about a week until it's so cloudy you can't see the screen, then they take it off :D

Someone asked above about "Did anyone really think the ATI card would beat this" or words to that effect.

The answer is YES, someone last week went on and on about the ATI X2 gonna be beating all cards inc the 2 new Nvidias (infact multiple peeps seemed to think it would be faster).

Now you can read many threads about how its drivers to blame and ATI will 2 fold performance with new drivers real soon. ;)

P.S, I aint buying any of these cards, I will skip to next Real Next Gen.
