Significantly improved

Nvidia plans to launch a new Geforce 9800GTX driver and we’ve learned that you should expect a severe performance increase compared to current drives.

We know that this performance jump will affect 9800GTX but as its G92 based card the new driver might speed up some other G92 based products.

Nvidia is doing this simply as with current drivers Radeon 4850 and 4870 are getting too close to 9800GTX performance and Nvidia wants to make some stand.

The performance might be so good that internally Nvidia calls it 9800GTX+. If we see some big improvements that will clearly mean that Nvidia was holding some performance potential back and that it was waiting for the new ATI card.

It wouldn’t be the first time.

Well its certainly good news for me at least :D

so let me get this right, nvidia new the card could go faster but dint release drivers on purpose so that if you wanted a faster card you had to buy a new one from them.

and now that they worried about ati performance, they going to allow the driver to be released. omg nvida are a disgrace.

shocking.

Good news for G92 owners but not the 1st time NV have held back performance to spoil ATI's launch party then suddenly they give existing owners more performance which they just found............. yeah right:(:(

Well they best release it quick, as otherwise i'm going for CF 4850's next week :p

Yeah well to be honest it doesnt surprise me either, they must have known this all along and deliberately held back. Good thing is though I only bought this card on Friday for about £140 brand new :D So essentitally I could be looking at an even greater bargain soon enough!

Problem I see here is that NVidia could have released the driver, it would have been faster than the GTX properly and then people would have actually bought the card in droves....doesnt make sense really why they've held back if this is the case!

crooks tbh.

i think they're paying their driver team more... now if they can do the same for the 8800GT i might actually start to like them

but that is extremely underhanded.

Never expected anything less. We always get much better drivers just before the opposition releases their new card.

It's to make us think it's not worth upgrading.

Great boost if it works on my g92 GTS (which it should really since it's almost the same as a 9800GTX).

However, still won't stop me going 2 x 4850 or 4870.

Hmmm might try these drivers, would be nice to see a performance boost from my 8800GT, especially a severe performance boost.

This really does make the decision tougher for those on the 8800GT/GTS and 9800series who were thinking of jumping ship to the ATi cards. Also is the GX2 not 2xG92 cores which in theory would also bump its performance meaning getting closer to the GTX260/80 lol!

lol tip to everyone - hold off from buying the GTX280 until xmas when they release a super super turbo driver for it :o
if this is true its ridiculous, i just checked the first post to make sure it wasnt dated 1st April

But the GTX280 basically is 2 G92 cores slapped into one core. The current GTX280's are crap ones anyway.

Wasn't aware of that... think you may be wrong. Look at the technical reviews on how it is a fair bit different with the shaders etc. Not just two slapped together.

I'm finding this "fact" very dubious... sorry but to suddenly find a load of G92 performance from no where? Sorry, 7-8 months after the G92 was released just seems BS to me, and I certainly won't be holding my breath... if this was the case, they'd have released it for now..

The only way I seriously see performance going up with new drivers now is, if they finally sort SLi performance on the G92 chipset OR and I think this is realistic, the PQ goes down... remember when they reeased them drivers years ago on 5 series cards, that basically, reduced PQ in 3DMark03/05? Can't remmebrr which? Mmmmmm somethign smells fishy here and there's only 2 things that smell of fish and one of them is a fish!

Cheers Pug
