9800GX2 - New Computer! 3D Mark problems!

You really shouldn't have any problems with the OS, I've had a dozen cards of both makes in an out on this install. As long as you clean them out it should be fine.

Confirm these steps (more or less )

1. One monitor connected.
2. You clean out the drivers, uninstall etc. Then use drivercleaner in safe mode.
3. You boot back in and the two gpu are detected in the device manager, cancel any requests. It selects a generic driver and you can run your native res.
4. Install the driver of choice, may ask for permission to use drivers a couple of times, screen flashes on/off a few times. Reboots.
5. NVCP open, multi gpu option still not available? Should be multi gpu mode + single display performance mode.

At point 3. When I boot back up two GPU's arent detected! It just selects a Generic driver and stays as 1 GPU. I have no option to cancel requests!

The one time I did get it to work the NVCP had the Multi GPU option! Which was cool!

Are there any third-party tools that anyone knows of that can enable SLi? I know you can turn CrossFire on with ATi Tray tools for example.

For reference, here's my 9800GX2 running on XP 32-bit....

As I said before if its not detecting two gpu's the NVCP option won't appear. It sounds intermittent, reseated it? PCIe slot ok? Card may be at fault or something else is interfering with it. No one else has a PC you can try it in?

No they dont unfortunately!

It was fine when I got it, then I messed about but got it back again. Now I have lost it completely!

Running out of ideas now! :(

Hasnt worked! Still just 1 GPU!

This is so upseting!

Not sure if you know about the Coolermaster S case but thats what I have and when it arrived all the frnt bays had released and in the case! I wonder if they could have damaged something inside the PC!

Does it not working after a reinstall mean its definetly broken do you think?

You certainly shouldn't be having all this trouble. What is the motherboard?

The Same as you're I believe! Abit IP35 Pro!

I dont want to beleive its broken because the amount of problems Ive already been through receiving this PC, to add this would be the last straw!

You have any final solutions?

Im going to ring them tomorrow!

I cant see how I can do anything more than Uninstall Vista!

Try the lower PCI-e slot and see if the card is recognised correctly. It wont run at full speed, but it should work just the same. If it works you'll know its the slot.

The motherboard has two PCI-e slots. Top one is x16, lower is x4 in speed. Electrically they are the same. The lower one can also run the card well enough to see if the top slot is messing around.

Yo! Just logged on and went into device manager and its showing both now! But Im plugged into the 4X slot!

So does that mean the 16X slot is broken? I presume so!

Dayuum! That Sucks! How do I go about telling OCUK that then?

I hate to dis OCUK, because the people on the forums are great, but my PC came with the wrong operating system, a broken case, the PSU the wrong way round, the case fan not attached, the disc drive not attached to the power.

And Im not exactly computer minded, there could be more wrong!
