The 4080 Super is worth considering at about the same price. Better upscaling and ray tracing, so better visuals and longevity.I'm trying not to fully break the bank, I'll have to have a look when I'm back at the pc but yeah that really helps, I doubt anything new NVIDIA is going to be xtx levels of appealing on price so gives a bit of time to consider things.
You've been a great help and insight, I appreciate it! I preordered the 9800x3d about an hour ago so I've got a few minutes or so to source the rest of the parts lol
I got my XTX for 750, the cheapest 4080 I could find is 950, I did consider the 4080 but not for that price diffThe 4080 Super is worth considering at about the same price. Better upscaling and ray tracing, so better visuals and longevity.
The X870 is down to USB4 really. Few weeks back the B650E-E from Asus was under £210 after cashback and is a very good motherboard. Not sure about pricing now.
GPU as other mentioned, 4080 super may be a good option, as it runs pretty cool, but last I checked, the 7900XTX was much cheaper, and on rasterisation is a very strong GPU.
PSU is the only thing that I’m set on one brand only and don’t look anywhere else: Seasonic.
I love the look as wellYeah it's been a while since I picked up a new motherboard but it seems you can flash the bios without a CPU these days, means no holding onto older CPUs or borrowing a friends hah.
Orange is my thing, big fan of the colour so I agree with the "tasteless" outlook on others, I think it looks great. As for the ports, I've never bought a motherboard and not had enough ports but I'll double check it.
I believe its the lightning pg I think it was that was also in the same weightclass
Actually now I think about it, I have a USB card in my PC from my Oculus CV1, though I don't currently use any of the ports as I don't use a CV1 anymore but that was the only time I needed more.I love the look as well
I was considering it but it had one or two less USB ports than the PG or the Steel Legend, which mattered to me but may not matter to you. It's a good board otherwise.
I just saw this, I haven't seen much on the NZXT PSU's in my travels, do they get a good rep or are they a bit hit and miss? For £120 you can get the
NZXT C Series 1200W Full Modular PCIe 5.0 80+ Gold Power Quiet Supply/PSU ATX3.0
Wrong way around. The RMe has always been a lower tier than the RMx even more so now that they have cheaped out with the OEM and given it a shorter warranty. The RMe has always been considered a higher tier model than the RMx, at least with the warranty length, but they released the newer RMe with the bundled 12VHPWR cable and I think that's the V2 (2023) version.
The original RMx doesn't have the ATX 3.x/PCIE5 label and doesn't include a 12VHWPR cable, but the new RMx version (2024) has an updated 12v-2x6 cable and is ATX 3.x compatible.
The RMx SHIFT is a different beast because it uses side-mounted cables that aren't compatible with all cases.

D'oh, I corrected my post! I think the OP knew what I meant 'cos I clarified the warranty length of the RMe earlierWrong way around. The RMe has always been a lower tier than the RMx even more so now that they have cheaped out with the OEM and given it a shorter warranty.
Oh yeah, jeez, they're really slow updating their website!I had a look through it and couldn't see specifically the RM1000x 2024, there was the 2021 though
For users who want a splash of color, the RMx Series is compatible with CORSAIR Premium Individually Sleeved Type 4 PSU cables and our ARGB PSU cable strips, sold separately.
That's a good idea, it would make sense if they are Type 4, since most of their PSUs are, but several of their newer PSUs (like the SHIFT) are Type 5, so ideally I'd really want more confirmation than the press release.I'm gunna probably have to send them an e-mail and ask or replace the PSU in my current rig until the cpu is here and move everything around it looks like.

Thank you for your patience. The cables from your RM850 (CP-9020196-UK) will not work on the RM1000X with SKU (CP-9020271-UK) as the RM1000X you provided the part number for uses Type-5 cables. Which have a smaller connection on the end that goes into the Power Supply, not allowing for other cables to fit. Please feel free to reach out if you have any additional questions.
Wow, so their press release is wrong? That could be an expensive misprint for somebodyGot a response from Corsair:
Will be using the new PSU in my old rig for the time being if I can't find this box anywhere, gunna have a look in my loft tomorrow when I can get someone to hold the ladder as it's not in any of the usual places.
Yeah, the SHIFT is deffo type 5! But, I copied and pasted the part code that was referenced and I think that's the not-shift variant, so it does appear that the RMx (2024) and the RMx SHIFT are both Type 5, unless the email is wrong and the press release is correcthe must think I meant the shift variant as that one appears to be Type 5
He also did say it wouldnt even fit, so that would be the ultimate test would only take me a moment once it arrives in the mean time but he did get what I said the wrong way round so makes me a little cautious on if wires havent been wrongly crossed (pun intended) so we'll find out either way soon enoughYeah, the SHIFT is deffo type 5!
