9800xt to what?

Considering your staying on AGP i imagine, their arent too many cards faster than it really. At present the only new cards faster are the 7800GS & X850XT.
If you can get the 6800GT i would probably go for that.

BTW - whats the rest of your rig like.

Don't forget from that generation, the next cards (x800 and 6x00 series) offered double the performance pretty much. It was on of the biggest jumps in modern graphics. Anything from a 6800GT up or an X800XT up will flatten your current card.

thanks guys what sort of money would i offer for his 6800 gt?
as for rest of my rig blimey ages since i looked emm lets have a look

amd athlon 2700

1 gig of ram not sure which 3200 maybe:)
abit nf7
so how much is the top end card for this motherboard guys?
thanks a lot

6800GT - hmm, well an X850XT usually costs about £140 (second fastest behind 7800GS). Given that the Ultra should cost just shy of the X850XT, then £100ish tops. The 9800 should sell for about £35-45. Use this only as a guide as I really don't know for sure.

so now we have pci or agp so with my mobo has to be agp so fastest for that is what now? and whats the take on ati v nvidia these days. so long since i upgraded im lost :o

Well, the X850 does walk all over the 6800GT but it doesn't support Shader model 3.0 and HDR (high-dynamic range) lighting. However, whether the 6800GT can cope with modern games whilst running HDR or SM3.0 is another matter. I personally think it is worth it. The very fastest is the 7800GS which outpeforms the 6800 ultra and is THE top AGP card. Costs about £200 though.

I went from a 9800XT getting 3k in 3D Mark 05 to a 2nd hand X800pro@pe from the members market last year.
I now get just over 6k in 3D Mark 05.
Install was **** easy even using the same drivers. Just uninstalled them slung card in reinstalled and never looked back. Very

whtas the rest of your spec only it can be cheaper buying a new mobo and graphics card on pci-e than the same model on agp, but if your like me with a socket a cpu than a new cpu is needed aswell which blows your budget out the water.
For an agp card the x850 xt is an excellent card, got one myself as an upgrade from a 9800 xt and the difference is huge, but selling mine and going the pci-e route as thats where we'll all have to go in the future and I should still be able to get a good price for mine now while people still want to stick with agp.

edit: missed your earlier post with spec in.

80 to 100 i would go for max , also try and clock your cpu higher u got the motherboad to do it and on a 2700 a 6800gt is not being used to its fullist , some of my mates run 3000+ with 6800gt's with good results

If its a 6800 ultra then it would be worth getting, my bro's got on and its on par with my x850xt and supports sm3.0. depends on how much he's wanting for it though.

As for the two 7800's the clock speeds are different - higher the better :D

Dale how much would you say is fair price?

£150 or less would be a good price in my mind, Allthough if it was me who was selling it I'd want a little bit more :D :D
Whats he want for it??

im in this same dilemma since farcry with HDR runs very well on my card i don't want to upgrade it for something like a x850xt since it does not have SM3.0 and would seem like more of a downgrade to me.

guess the only real options are a 6800GS or 7800GS, if only the 7800GS was at 150 quid inc vat i would snap one up instantly. its still prices about 50 quid more than it should be.

why the upgrade if the games you play run fine with what you've got?? Wait a little longer an the 7800 will come down in price, the x850xt was £250 at xmas now its £175. The 7800gs is the best agp card out, but as you said it still costs too much - could get a x1800xt for the price of some of them if you could switch to pci-e

if i can get it for a 100 would that be worth it? or is the 7800 gs a lot better?
Th 7800GS isn't much better than the 6800Ultra so for £100, get the ultra.
