Generelly we do also allow to remove/replace cooler on our graphics cards.
Such a beautiful thing.
Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Fair enough, I think the 1080 has the potential to be better than a 980ti, if it has good overclocking headroom and of course driver support will focus on the newer card. At first I don't think there'll be much in it, but a few months down the line we might see it pulling ahead.
That being said I'm not sure it needs to be quicker, there was a tonne of people who upgraded from 780's and 780ti's to 970's and 980's and the difference in game wasn't even noticeable.
So the EVGA step up allows for upgrading to a slower card? Even though the name is higher?
It should be called the EVGA sideways program.
Bigger number, new shiny, hmmmmmmm![]()
980ti is close to a Titan X, you think Nvidia will make both of them irrelevant within the space of 12 months? Nope.
The Ti versions will be out next year, that's the time to make the upgrade.
Which slower card do you mean?
If you have a high end SKU like 980Ti you will not be able to step up to the new generation mid range chipset, you will only be able to go for the new high end chipset.
I would say stay calm and see what launches when it launches.... There is then still 2 years time to complain if you are not happy with what you see![]()
Theoretically both the 1070 and the 1080 will be faster than a Ti. I can see the 1070 having 3200 cores and the 1080 having 4000 odd. Both by far beating the Ti's 2816.
But will they be as cheap? Doubt it.
Nvidia are many things, but they aren't stupid. The mid range Pascal cards are not going to out-perform a Maxwell Ti. If anything they'll end up being neck and neck just using less juice... with an absurd price tag to go with it.

So why then did the Maxwell gtx980 out perform the gtx780ti and this without a die shrink. A chip the size of the gtx980 on the 16nm process would easily beat out a gtx980ti if Nvidia wish it.
So anyone who has a 980ti now cannot step up?
As the top tier cards will not be available within the 90 day setup window.
It was close.
And most people upgraded because of the memory.
When you think about it. The 980 with 4gb ram was a very dull release.
Thats what ebay is for
You reckon that when pascal tech gets revealed in a few days with no firm release the MM is going to be flooded with 980ti cards?
Lol
Nope!
Whether Nvidia choose to beat the 980ti i don't know but they could easily if they want to. Supposedly Polaris is going to be faster than Fury x (596mm2) and is supposed to be only 232mm2 in size.
no when they physically arrive and they out perform the 980ti even by 1% I guarantee the price will plummet as people sell them. It's exactly what happened last time.
I respect your right to be cynical but I've worked here through enough nvidia launches to know what to expect. I could be wrong and it could be the worse card nvidia ever release but I doubt it.
The point I have always been trying to make is that when the new cards are physically out you will see a drop in price on second hand 980ti's whether it is as substantial as the 780ti drop remains to be seen but it will happen many of people who will just buy the latest and greatest everytime. IF it comes with 8GB memory and similar performance many will change regardless.
Of course they can beat the 980ti if they want. But it will depend on the speed of AMD's offering.
Pascal is coming to laptops first.
People are expecting a grand canyon gap of performance from current gen.
I just don't see it 16nm or not.
Its not how GFX companies work.
They will make sure AMD are in check
Then they will drip feed the rest of us. And milk everything out of pascal they can, starting with a small speed bump over current gen.
This speed decision will not be limited by fabrication either. It will be a decision made in an office. To maximise profits.
They can only have this approach if AMD bring out something slow enough. Polaris from the little information and few demo's is shaping up to be pretty impressive. Amd are also on record about wanting to bring VR level performance in at a cheaper price. I have a feeling nvidia might just get some competition this time around. Anyhow not to long to wait. Things are certainly going to be more interesting with 14nm and 16nm around.
