980x vs 920

Get what you can afford and what you want. Stuff all these lot :) If you have the cash do it.
They are killer chips and will do you for a good few years.

I just installed a new 980X over the w/e, actually a bundle from overclockers:

It will be used for evolutionary algorithm simulations, alongside cuda-based sims, so I actually do need it. Compared to my previous Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz it flies along.

I'm still installing software on it, but a quick SuperPi 1M went from 30 seconds to less than 10. I know it's far from conclusive, but it's definitely indicative ;-)

Can't wait to get number-crunching on this bad boy.

Oh, and kudos to OC for the bundle. Nice to get a pre-overclocked, pre-tested system where everything just works out of the box.

Will you be happy wit it @ 4.2 when you know it will run @ 4.5/4.6 all day? :) just thought i would let that sit in the back of your mind. lol

But ye you must be the only person i have seen that really needs the 980.
You will have to post some of your results once its all ship shape

My 980x was just under £500 in an auction - I missed one (because they mis-spelt the title in several places and so badly only one person spotted it - I found it when looking through the sellers completed auctions) that went for £99. I run a dozen or more VM's on it - but theres usually only 2-3 running - with the rest available for gaming and other things. Was sold as new - but you never know whos telling porkies - the serial no was about 4 months old.
