9900KS...

Silly to buy this when in <16 months Intel brings Golden cove with a supposed large jump in performance, and then Ocean Cove. 1 year warranty or not, still a poorly priced chip.

AMD likely to bring 10+% gains with their 4000 chips as well.

wait what - is golden cove 14nm? And if so where does the performance come from, new architecture? And is this the rocket lake 10 core or different? Also 16 months is a damn long time we don't live forever

Laughable for a £600 CPU
I dunno. Putting it into perspective OEM CPU's (9900K's included) only have one year anyway and sometimes are not much less expensive than retail.
It's a binned CPU, that is known for running fairly hot, that Intel know are going into machines likely to see heavy further overclocking. They'll be running closer to the limits of the silicon. 1year warranty is fine. Anyone running one stock will likely have it running for years without problems IMO.

For 9900ks owners:

Keep in mind that's there is a fair bit tuning to be done beyond the what you see in the reviews. Reviewers are generally pressed for time so they gotta get through their suite of tests. However, when you have you own setup and plenty of time for tinkering, I'd suggest the following: get you memory hand tuned on secondary and tertiary timings and get your uncore up.

This is my daily stable: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/305981997816348683/639739115864064000/unknown.png

Geekbench 4 is really good as it scales nicely with core, mem and uncore. https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/14876496

Use the reviewer numbers as a starting point to make sure everything is working as it should in stock config. Then it's about how much you enjoy tinkering.

from what I'm hearing the 9900ks is more stable with higher memory clocks than the k - as in you can push your memory speeds higher with the ks

so there is definitely extra performance to be gained beyond what reviewers showed

Maybe they binned for IMC also? For super mem performance you need a strong combination of imc, mem kit and motherboard.

for example, my same kit on an apex will do 15/4000~4133 but I’m board limited so I have to throw the towel in at 3700. Thankfully I can tighten timings a fair amount esp trfc so it’s not all bad.

So as a result of the price gouging going on here, took OCUK an age to decide if they will price match (they wont) so I have to delay my delivery so they can recall it.... Which then seems to have pushed another parcel from another supplier to the same day (from DPD) which I didnt want delaying ! Arghh..

Poor show by OCUK, most expensive 9900KS in the UK from what I can see and very poor customer service took ages and ages to decide if they would price match and now I have inadvertently delayed a delivery I actually wanted along with this one as it was too late for them to recall....

I think that could be the last OCUK order I place....

It's supposed to be either 10nm or 7nm. Either Golden Cove or Ocean cove is when they move away from the Core architecture, either way current rumours saying Golden Cove is supposedly the next Sandy Bridge. But then i heard similar things about Ocean Cove before so, who knows.

So you didn't cancel your ocuk order quick enough?

I asked to cancel it (yesterday) - and they said - no we should be able to price match so I said - OK leave it then if you think you can do that.. Then they say they cant 1 hour before its delivered (today) ..... I even said ill pay 10 over where I can get it elsewhere, so I was not taking the pee.....

I doubt that only 16 months away - maybe 24 months

If this is true, then yes you were messed about and that is unacceptable, do you know who you spoke to please?

Based on this being true I will authorise the price match!

Any reason why OCUK is higher price than other vendors? Purely exceptional markup?

L3sta was dealing with it on the pre sales customer service thread.

If this is going to be messed with again please can someone update me in a timely manner so I can update (the other) order as I said in that thread, I don't want to end up with 2 of these chips... One way or the other please can this be resolved this AM as it should not be so difficult.

Thread was called: (in pre sales)

Please cancel order OC365699*
