Hey guys,
Just want your feedback on which of these systems would be the best all-rounder (Gaming, video editing, etc.)
A.
Intel I7 980x £590
Samsung F3 1TB Raid 0 (2x) £40
90GB Vertex 2 3.5" ssd £140
12GB corsair Vengance 1600Mhz £150
23" Asus VG236HE £280
Asus Sabertooth TUF £150
1200w Coolermaster Silent Pro £160
=====
£1520

B.
Intel I7 2600K £280
Samsung 3 1TB Raid 0 (2x) £40
90GB Vertex 2 3.5" ssd £140
8GB Corsair Vengance 1600mhz £150
23" Asus VG236HE £280
Asus P8P67 Deluxe Intel P67 £180
1200w Coolermaster Silent Pro £160
======
£1230

1. I already have one samsung f3 1TB hdd, so that is why I only put down £40 for one.
2. I used 12GB ram for the 1366 option, because it will keep it triple channel and 8GB for the dual channel 1155
3. My budget is about £1900
4. I want to go with Nvidia, 3D vision within the next month. i know AMD have their own 3d now but I want to keep to nVidia (I am not a fanboy i have a 4890 at the moment).
5. GTX 480 is £255 and the GTX580 is £385, would it be better to get two GTX480 and put them in SLI or just a single GTX580.
6. If anyone has a better set up for around the £1900 mark could you please note it down.
7. At the moment I have:
AMD 1055T
4GB DDR2 600Mhz
Asus M4A87-E
ATI 4890
I to me seems like the I7 2600k is a step back. i know the 2600k is better at gaming than the 1055T, but it is 6coreV4core.
8. I know this is the wrong section, but what kind of sale price do you think i could get from my current "rig". Just thinking if I should pass it on to my father or sell it and build him a new one. Cause 1055T is a little Overkill for what he uses it for.

Sorry for all the questions, Thanks in Advance
Alex.

When you say video editing/rendering, is this as a hobby or professionally?

1055T Vs i7 2600K

The i7 2600K as you can see is a fair amount better across the board. The i7 980 isn't worth the substantial extra.

I'd go for a Sandy Bridge i7 2600K build, sell the 1055T and pop in an Phenom II X4 or Athlon X3/X4 for your Dad. Maybe even sell the 4890 and put in something more power efficient/quiter if he's not gaming. :p

How about something along the lines of the following.

Considerably under budget too. GTX 570 over the GTX 480 or 580 and could pop in a second later on if you wished. Also bigger SSD. PSU would be enough to handle SLI and 2600K overclocked.

.
Will you go SLi later? A 1200w PSU seems overkill...

Yes, the only thing is if I go SLI GTX480 now or GTX580 SLI in 1/2 months. Also I think I will try and go with something between a GTX260 and a GTX285 as a physx card (also Folding@Home)

Wait, do you have system A already?

No, At the moment I have the system in point 7 if i remember:
AMD 1055T
4GB ram
ATI 4890 etc.

Ah sorry my fault, wasn't reading properly :p.

Then if that's the case, I would keep the 1055T, overclock it to 4ghz. Then I would wait for April for AM3+ boards and replace the RAM with 2x4gb RAM then. For an all rounders PC it's still a pretty good system. Maybe replace the 4890 and get a 570 too?

Also what does your father usually do on the PC?

Considering your uses and your existing system, I would consider:

-Keeping the core X6 system for the moment and wait for the new AMD Bulldozer CPUs which will are expected to arrive at around April time. These will be much faster clock-for-clock than currect Phenom II chips and eight core versions will be available.

-Upgrade your graphics card (and PSU if required) to a top-end Nvidia card (I would recommend either the GTX 570 or 580) to get your 3D gaming fun.

- If you feel the need for more RAM, buy another set of 4GB DDR2. Due to the increasing rarity of DDR2 - expect to be able to sell this in April and hardly make a loss.
