A Battlefield 2142 thread

Because it was the middle of the map and the most tactically useful point :p

Also, i feel the walkers are brilliantly balanced for what they need to be. Very powerful, but not overpowered. Especially against someone who knows what they're doing.

I was looking forward to this as I liked the look of it. After getting to play it at i17 though I'm probably not going to bother, I was expecting a lot more. its good fun for a while but it didn't last long. I did like the air\ground balance, numpties in aircraft bombing the hell out objectives just wasn't there, but then again it was a beta...

As someone else said, it's a shame POE 2 doesn't seem to have many players as that plays really well. Oh well, how long is it to Quakewars?...

Firstly, I'm really looking forward to BF2142. It took a lot of convincing to get me into BF2, but after giving it a few hours I found myself enjoying it thoroughly.

Anyway, I find it slightly bizarre that people who have no interest in 2142 are posting in a 2142 thread. Why not just post elsewhere, as I'm fairly sure that people who are anxiously waiting for 2142 are not at all interested in your opinions.
I always find it amusing however when people reiterate 2142 simply being a mod. Yeah, and? Have a gold star!

Shame really, but EA are just as annoying as all the flamers.

So for me it'll be Saturday. :(

now, i'm not normally one of these people who goes 'LOL what do you expect it's EA'. But this one's been taken really too far. After the Beta debacle where they tried to charge people for access to that, they manage to find 2 ways of getting extra money out of people... fail to be honest. The downloader option is pretty pathetic. a Making Of film that'll probably be on youtube within 20 minutes of the release of the game, a soundtrack that'll be extractable so easily from the game files if you buy the game off a retailer for say £20, nearly half price.... The only thing that the DLer has going for it is 24/48 hr exclusive on the demo.... All i have to say is how low can EA go. I respect the good work that is being done in the developing side of things, but the marketing/publishing side is nothing but a faceless, shameless piece of ****.

I'll still buy the game. But EA need to sort this out.

I was woundering when the demo would turn up hehe.

Looks like i'll be playing it on the sunday if anything as im sure everywhere will be packed with people downloading unless you get in quick.

I think we should leave people with their own opinions, if you don't like it, I don't care, as for others who will/already like it.

Seems to whole Gamespot thing isn't as bad as it first sounded. Anyone will be able to download from GS or anyone else that EA is in bed with for that matter. It's the same setup as the BF2 demo, so the whole Gamespot exclusive will last about 5 mins and it'll be uploaded anywhere and everywhere.

Sounds good, Im off work all next week so will be able to devote 90% of my time to the demo whilst waiting for my pre-order to turn up

I never played BF1942 (never had a good enough pc back then) so BF2 was the first taste for me (used to play Americas Army but gave up on that after a year or two).

My friends in the Beta test group for BF2142 and he was impressed with it, and I think he was getting bored with BF2 at the time.

To be honest, for £20 you get a good 6 months to a years play out of it, you dont have to pay for servers etc, to me thats a good deal. A lot better than paying a monthly subscription to play WoW or something.

EAsy way to screw EA over. It is perfectly legal due to the way that European law is set up, you are allowed to order the Battlefield 2142 Collector's Edition from the EA downloader. Use the account to get the BF2142 demo and then cancel within 14 days, thus not being ripped off stupidly for a demo, but still playing as soon as possible.

Ive just preordered it from GAME so ill get a free rank sent by email, which aint bad.
On gameplay u could get a new skin for a gun which aint very special, well i think its a gun or that big mech robot :)

Yep, its the EA Assault default rifle. I decided against going for the GAME rankup having played the beta. I got my first 2 ranks in the first round. All it requires is a combat efficiency pin (5 kills in a row) and you've got what you paid an extra £10 for. First rank's only 40 career points.

bf 2142

Battlefield 2142 Senior Producer Marcus Nisslon has been interviewed by Computer & Video Games.

Are you saying you've been a bit crap then?

Marcus Nilsson: No, it's not that we are necessarily very bad, we're not, but there is a very vocal minority on the forums who say 'EA is crap' and 'DICE are lazy', but they're all probably playing the game every day already anyway. We have minor problems, sometimes we have big problems, but minor problems are not what people should write about. Maybe they should write about why they're playing Battlefield every day. But that's human nature, I guess - you have a vocal minority and a silent majority.

[..]

As it uses the same 3D engine, is it fair to assume 2142 be the kid brother to BF2, as Vietnam was to 1942?

Marcus Nilsson: No, that's not fair. First of all this whole same-engine thing is just not true. Battlefield 2142 has an evolved engine. There was code from Codename Eagle in BF2 and there is code from BF2 in 2142. Y'know that's the way it always is. Engines evolve, you don't just throw everything away and start from scratch. We've replaced the rendering, but from BF2 we have the same network engine... Actually, for the gamers that like to play online, this probably the best engine out there. There are highly improved visuals, but it's also much more stable. The code is naturally better because it's been worked on for so long. The server browser is 600% faster, UI navigation is easier, connecting will be a one-screen process....

With regard to Vietnam, if you want to consider it a sort of Battlefield 1.5, that's fine, but 2142 is going to be much more than a v2.5 because so much innovation has gone into it. For one we have a brand new game mode that is more objective-based. Then we have the persistence around the player, which will change how you equip yourself and which changes the momentum of the battle.

Good read, be sure to check it out here at C&VG.
