A Battlefield 2142 thread

well i got the demo from bittorent. have to say im a little dissapointed, the whole titan mode seems tacked on. doesnt really add anything new to the game. it seems a lot quicker to load onto the battle though, and ive only got 1gb of ram. bf2 was terrible for this.
 
Keep losing connection to EA Master Server :( looks and feels like a mod , doesnt offer anything new, well not enuff to justify buying it when i have BF2.
 
If this is so much like BF2 as many people are saying, then i cant wait. I sold BF2 months ago due to the multiplayer not working at all, so i only hope that 2142 actually works on my PC.

Sounds like an issue your PC has rather than an issue with BF2 I'd have thought.

I tried absolutely everything to fix the problem and couldn't quite work out what was going wrong, but i know it was nothing to do with my PC hardware. It was either software or internet. It happened suddenly aswell, it was working fine for months then one day just stopped.
 
Well, played 2142, glad to see they buffed my weapon of choice, the assault guns, or maybe i just got better. A bit of a meh map. Verdun i enjoyed more. Will be a great full game when unlocks come into play. Feels wierd without even grenades...
 
Has anyone else noticed that all the aircraft apc's are used for is ramming other vehicles? Same crap was done in the beta, even if you have your sheild up it goes straight through and desytroys whatever vehicles you;re in regardless of health. :rolleyes:
 
Apparently crashing in game like I get is probably due to VOIP so Im going to turn it off in game, hope it works, it crashes everytime.

Also Im getting server disconnects too.

Nice to see things havent changed.......... :rolleyes:

EDIT: still getting disconnects less than a minute into a game, but no crashes at least.

BF2 worked perfectly on this system...

EA downloader says 1 hour to complete. Thought it wasn't out til Sunday? I was on the beta but I haven't pre ordered.

There's been a problem with the EA Master Server tonight. Probably not enough resources for the amount of people creating new accounts etc now that it's open to the public.
 
I was getting this all the time at i28 when we were all issued with a beta key.

I kept on getting the random disconnects from the server too, so I went and asked someone who was dealing with the beta keys, they told me it was a dual core issue,

Load Windows Task Manager, right click on BF2142 in processes, Set Affinity then untick one core . Worked a treat for me.
 
Didn't solve the problem for me keep getting disconects off the server, this has deffo made my mind up not to buy it 100% now, the same bugs that plagued bf2 are going to be there.
 
I dont like it.

Although I did try to fly that fighter helicopter thing like a helicopter (didnt realize thrusters were at back instead of bottom) and wondered why the physics seemed so weird :o

The disconnects are not to do with the 2142 code. They relate to the master server (it is not a disconnection caused by the game itself or your machine).

No, just the usual "your connection to the server has been lost" rubbish.

I had to go in to work, also gave up on the demo tonight cos of all the disconnects.

I will give the setting affinity thing a go in the am, although BF2 worked quite well usually without having to set it.

Its our fault really, these new fangled "dual-core" processors we've apparently stolen from the goverment or something, maybe EA/Dice havent heard about them or something, I mean they've only been out for almost 2 years IIRC.....

I loved BF2 (even though i usually sucked at it) but this is seeming to be the same problems all over again.

The plus points that I have seen so far though are:

Fast server refresh list (although I am annoyed that I cannot see the ping times to the servers, "green" doesnt exactly show how good my ping is)
Fast map load times, even more so once its loaded once

Negatives:

Still can lock up trying to log in so you basically have to reset your pc
Crashing (seems to be voip related)
disconnects (could be the dual core problem)
Cant say anymore as I havent had any chance to play ingame....
 
Im starting to like it a lot more now than i first start but it still has a lot of bugs as mentioned above, i had around 4 " you have lost connection " errors and when i first started to play the mech's had a weird glitch where they would'nt walk properly lol was like they was hovering or wiggling to much.

I like the point of view scope on the new weapons it really looks nice compared to the BF2 ones
