sniper rifel needs you to aim like 1mm infront of the person your shooting at,

i dont think its down to lag, more them trying to make it more realistic by saying, look a bullet isnt going to travel half a mile in a milisecond

but it could be lag :/

The sniping systems a joke, just seems to me dice half assed it and started bsing about bullet drop etc. Why have all these arcadey elements in the game then give ONE friggin rifle realistic elements? Makes zero sense.

50klicks server is now running BF2 Recorder :)

After you have played a round on the server - go to the menu and click "Community" and download the recorder files - then play them back from any angle you like :)

It's really cool - just not figured out how to get movie footage out of it yet (apart from using FRAPS) - hope EA release some tools to do this....

I reckon i'll be paying that a visit. :)

Ive dloaded other dmeo files from servers ive played on and the recording has been ass, it records ok but vehicle movement is completly screwed over, if they go to turn they sorta start jerking and shuddering in the direction theyre gonna turn. This was on a few different euro servers, i suppose they just might have had the recording quality set low.

Umm whats the ip to that sever?

Got the game yesterday and im loving it. Hadn't played the demo of it but have all the rest of the series so got this too.

Few Qs.

1. Squads. My buddy who has the demo says squads adds a nice take on the game and i should get into one in game. How do i do that?

2. My Video card is a X800XT and im sure all the settings have defaulted to High or thereabouts. Are any of you guys running FSAA and AF with a similar card?

Reason i ask is im stuck at work atm.

i quite like the sniper, i can hit people on the move but its to much easier when they're standing still... only like the auto sniper tho, cba with the bullet cocking motion after every shot on the american one

how do i unlock a weapon? i've been promoted and am half way to the 2nd one

Ive got everything on high except lighting which is at medium, that seems to give me a lot of stuttering for some reason. 4xfsaa at 1280x960

You have to get to the second one :p

Just tried 50clicks with some other gouy, vog[ocuk] or something, demo recording is really smooth, a ton better than the dmeos ive dlaoded from other servers.

i couldnt tell you for sure, because i dont work for EA...but i dont think they 'half assed' the sniping system, it works for me and works well...

if you think, many of the BF2 maps are huge...snipers paradise, then how do you counter this...make sniping harder, how do you make it harder, give it some realistic elements, a perfectly logical approach in my eyes

id rather have it like it is now, where the skilled players can use it properly than having every leet kiddy spawn killing me from all over the map

You make sniping harder by giving the scope a waggle and a fade in time when you right click to bring it up to your eye. The sniping in game is totally retarded and random, the mec sniper at least is of more use up close than at range due to it being semi auto.

I dunno how you could see the sniping as being logical, the entire game is built round arcade gameplay, then they incorperate this bs bullet drop and whatever else, its just totally dumb to make one class of weapon operate completly differently from the rest. They messed with the sniper to stop people from whining about it, they may as well have made the helo's fly like the dc helo to shut up the dc fanboys as well if thats the case.

I agree, the shotgun should have 30 rounds in it, fire 3 shots per second and only take half a second to reload!

The anti-tank rocket launchers should have mini guns attached!

The miniguns on the blackhawks should have rocket-launchers attached!

Infact, everything should take place in space! That'd make EVERYTHING arcadey.

Seriously; the sniper rifle's far from the only realistic thing. I can use the M24 perfectly (infact, I'm a damned good sniper with it), but I can't use the MEC or Chinese one as well. But do I hell complain about it; just like I can't use the MP5 as well as I can use the M16.

This game is great! Only playing the demo at the mo but I reckon I'll buy it at some point.

BTW, how do you use the TV guided missiles in the helos? Ive only gotten the chance to play with the a few times but whenever I do, i click left mouse but never see anything happen?

The planes really run rampant on the maps, taking out helos left right and center! You cant last long when youve got some good pilots on the map!

Hi Madmaca, I found this guide on recording with BF2 and creating Avi's. Hope it helps :)

Q – opens the Playback Rose. Move the mouse to highlight the desired playback option and press the Left Mouse Button to select. Options available here that are not bound to separate keys include "Restart" and "Quit".
T – opens the Camera Rose. Choose the camera option or cycle through the available players.
1 – Pause the playback (also available in the Playback Rose).
2 – Playback recorded session at normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
3 – Playback recorded session at 5% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
4 – Playback recorded session at 25% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
5 – Playback recorded session at 50% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
6 – Playback recorded session at normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
7 – Playback recorded session at 150% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
8 – Playback recorded session at 300% of normal speed (also available in the Playback Rose).
Spacebar – cycle between players.
Right Mouse Button – cycle between free camera and player camera.
Mouse wheel – zoom camera in and out when locked onto a player.
W, A, S, D, Ctrl and Shift – move free camera around map, forward, left, backwards, right, down and up.
Mouse look – aim free camera.

This step allows you to record your camera movements in the game.

1.Download ftp://largedownloads.ea.com/pub/misc/demo.cmd and place this in both of these folders.
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\mods\bf2

2.Create a demos folder in the following location.
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\mods\bf2

3.Place all the demos that you wish to render into this folder. Your demos can be found in the following location.
C:\Documents and Settings\"yourname"\My Documents\Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles\Default\demos
(I recommend rendering one demo file at a time so that its less confusing)

4. Open your command prompt. (This can be done by pressing start, run, and typing cmd. You may also be able to find your command prompt in your windows accessories folder.)

5.In your command prompt, type the directory to your BF2 Demo.
Example: cd c:\program files\EA Games\Battlefield 2 Demo

6.Now a line of text should appear that states yoru BF2 Directory.
Example: C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo>
Type in the following command: demo.cmd +c "name of demo"
Example: demo.cmd +c demo8

Your game will start up and you should also recieve a message in your command prompt that states: Playing back demo and recording camera...
After you get past your game loading screen, you will enter a loading game screen. Once the game is done loading, click join game. You are now in your video. Any movements of the camera that you make now are being recorded.
It is STRONGLY recommended that you continure recording until the video ends. My video froze at the end and i pressed control+alt+delete and closed Battlefield out and my video works fine. Just be carefull on this step.

Playing back your video with the pre-recorded camera movements

1.In your C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\mods\bf2\demos folder you will now find a BF2CAM file. This file is your video with the pre-recorded camera movements.

2.Now go back to your Command Prompt and type in the following:
demo.cmd "name of demo" "name of cam file" -def
Example: demo.cmd demo8 mydemocam -def

Your game will once again start up and bring you to a game loading screen. Click join game and you will begin watching your pre-recorded camera movements. Your command prompt should also read: Playing back demo with recorded camera...
I do not know how necessary this step is however it is helpfull in finding out how your camera movements look once they are all put together.

Converting to AVI

1. In your command prompt type the following command:
demo.cmd +r "name of demo" "name of cam file"
Example: demo.cmd +r demo8 mydemocam

Your game will once again open. Just do as you did in the previous steps. Your command prompt will also read: Rending AVI...

2.Once the game loading bar is complete press ALT+TAB to minimize the game. A small box will have appeared. This is your choice of encoders. It is recommended that you use the DivX encoder. Click your choice, than press ok.

3.Open the game window back up (it should be minimized at the bottom of your screen) and click join game.
NOTE: You MUST leave the game and the video running on your screen until the video is over. If you minimize your game and try to bring your window back up during this encoding process, your game will close out and your AVI file will be corrupt.

4.If you choose to stop rendering before the end of the demo, press R.

Adding Sound

Your AVI file will not have sound in it. This step will help you to create a sound file to add to your video.

1.Type in the following command in your command prompt
demo.cmd +s "name of demo file" "name of cam file"
Example: demo.cmd +s demo8 mydemocam

Your game will once again load. Just do as you did in the previous steps. However, once you click join game, no video will play. You will begin to hear sound from your video.

*I have yet to complete this step. What I have considered doing is recorind the sound with fraps, than using fraps to create sound file. I may then be able to combine the sound and the AVI file in a video editting program such as Video Edit Magic.

I hope this guide helps everyone. I tried to make it as simple as possible.

Yeah because obviously all that makes everything arcadey..........Even dice say the games orientated towards arcade action, the vehicles don't handle realistically like a sim. Battlefield series has always been about an arcade styled of gameplay with real world weapons implemented without ballistics.

I play as a sniper quite a lot myself and tbh don't have any complains. Up to about range of 250 yards it is deadly. I never really played previous games as a sniper, but know from Joint Ops that if it is improved, we'll have a sniper feast where you can't stop moving for a millisecond without getting popped.

Have no actual complaints about the snipers because on a decent server i can use it quite well just on servers that have higher pings than usual is slightly harder to use, prefer the usmc sniper for accuracy but thats balanced out by having to reload every shot where as the mec and chinese rifles are semi auto and hold ten rounds with slightly less accuracy and damage.

Can anyone comment on the 1Gb to 2Gb difference? I currently have G-Skill 1Gb and might get 2Gb without loosing much money but is it actually worth it?

Currently in commander mode if I zoom right in then come out of command mode its really laggy as it pages. So do I keep my £170 and save for a R520+ATi board or 2Gb ram?

The snipers are great. If you cant use it then either practise more or use another weapon. I hate snipers in CS:S as its just a case of putting the crosshairs on the target and pressing fire for an instant kill (AWP anyway), plus the maps are too small for snipe rifles. BF2 is just right IMO. Takes a bit of skill, but not ridiculously. Perfectly balanced against the other weapons. Even managed half a dozen kills with the complementary silenced pistol :D
