A battlefield2 thread

Got my first aid badge last night - yeay. Was quite fun being a medic oddly. Still corporal though...Got a few questions to add.

1. Was toying about joining you guys sometime over the weekend, but not if SF is running (ain't got it yet). Doesn't 50Klicks have 3 games running? (according to their website somewhere).

2. Can you have more than one online account per retail copy? I only ask as my partners son plays with my account and he's a bit of a plane/tank whore - don't really want to be associated as such.

3. Dumb question, but how do you type chat to other players? Is it T? I've only been using Q and those options.

4. Am toying with upgrading my RAM from 1GB to 2GB as well (thanks gran for money). I have 4 slots, 2 used with corsair 3200XMS 512MB. Would I be better getting the same RAM (and latency) on 2 sticks or 1?



And Nieldo, SATA ports can be a pain to configure initially - had a nightmare with mine, but once sorted is great due to faster disk access (as I understand it).

2: You can create more then one account yeah, I have three but only use the main one since he now has most of the unlocks.

3: J = chat to all, k = team chat, L = squad chat (Thats just off the top of my head)
 
Neildo - I'm not an expert - but usual wisdom is that BF2 is a RAM hog.
I had 1gig of Twinmoss (2*512mb dual channel) and although my gfx cards and processor could cope with running everything on high with AA etc on I think 4x, I still got the stuttering at the loading of maps - first few seconds while it caught up - what it couldnt push into RAM was going into the XP page file.
I'd agree with the previous poster that any issues you have would be related to less than a gig of RAM and possibly disk caching on an older HDD.
The options you have are to turn down settings or think about an upgrade - personally I wanted an upgrade cos I like the pretty pictures ( ;) ) and 2gig will become more commonplace anyhoo.
For Weeble - there's peeps with more expertise in upgrades around - but going from 1gig to 2gig really comes down to what you can afford/what you think is more important - 1gb sticks are usually going to have higher CAS latency and be more expensive - the Geil value I have is CAS 3 out of the box as opposed to 2.5 on the Twinmoss I had - then theres whether you want to keep slots free for later upgrades and all that malarky - I'm fairly simple and so just went for the 2*1gb sticks - that way I can use my old ram in another rig....

50klicks have 3 servers but only 2 are ranked.

memory wise i'd go for 2x512 of the same if you can afford it, if not go for 2x512 decent name stuff, i run 4x512 geil value, ocz value and 2 sticks of old samsung 3200 and bf2 does likes it memory :).

viop chat main button is B to chat to other squad members, teamspeak u can assign any button u want to talk or just have the mic on constant.

to type think its something like j=all k=team L=squad

Will be getting 2 more 512MB corsair (cheers gran for crimbo money) and a seperate account for my partner's vehicular hogging son. Will get 50Klicks details from their webby and add to favourites, as oddly couldn't filter the 1500 odd servers I had last night (via populated/not full/map size) and then chat to you guys when the oportunity arises.

Dunno what Deliverance is going on about!?!

Gonna get me another pair of matched 3200 Geil Ultras to go with the gig of the stuff I already have.

That reminds me. Occasionally when I press refresh on the favourites page it sometimes deletes the 50k servers and I have to log on by IP again. Any ideas why?

I'm prefering the game to CS:S as in that, its a lot of being killed by someone camping in the shadows and beating you on ping. Critical headshots seem less vital in BF2, which seems to be about more team work and a lot more fun :D

And yeah Errol I think I was. I remember a few guys being pinned down, I pop my head up for one second to scope the place out and get a round through the noggin!
 
Cant believe what happpened earlier today, was waiting for a plane to become avaialble. One did, i started to run towards it. then i got shot dead by a team mate, who wanted the plane for himself. Amazing, i couldnt believe it. He TK me for the plane. Really amazed me. Funny thing was, he took of and crashed it within 5 seconds!! god damn typicall

Happens a lot from what I've heard. Never been in a plane and will only get in choppers as an engineer - I can't fly choppers at all well! Similarly, I got team killed for not repairing a chopper in time, cos the pilot was hell bent on capturing a flag and we got shot to pieces - couldn't repair fast enough. He shot me when we re-spawned!

Spend more of my time in the action as assault/spec-ops/medic - you get less selfish TKing doing this.
 
Join my squad if you see me on the 50K server. I can almost guarantee that you will get more points (because I move quickly to cap flags and defend those being taken) and see more action.

I see that a lot on 'public' servers. Especially funny with the jump jets on the carriers, and n00bs who don't understand how to make it hover. They pick up speed.... and fall off the end.

I was on one server where the idiots were C4ing everyone's feet who went near a plane. Friendly fire was off but it blew me into the air and I landed... splat. (this was before I learned we have parachutes :o)

its not being arrogant, that is the way if you want to get points in a round. static players are just boring anyways. im gonna have to try to get on the 50k server for a rumble :D

has anyone got any tips on how to get the first commander badge and the explosives badge too?
im finding it so hard to actually get to be commander on some maps/servers :(
 
Actually, a one-on-one BF2 tournament would be really good fun. No vehicles, just infantry combat.

Imagine stalking your opponent on Oman ...
