A battlefield2 thread

Is it better to install Special Forces before or after the patch?

Vanilla BF2 + Special Forces + cumulative patch = Win.
Then adjust settings ONCE and leave it alone.
Then Defrag your system.
Jobs a good'en. ;)

Is there a point to the SF patch or does the vanilla one do everything anyway like I suspect it does?

Special Forces isn't a patch, it's a paid for add-on. It has new maps and new weapons.
It also has the added benefit of doubling the unlocks you get at each new rank.

I think he knows that. ;)

Patches are common to any regular BF1942 / BF2 player, alas.

Roll on the next one, and the next......

Yes I was referring to -

Code:
Battlefield 2: Special Forces Patch v1.12
Filename: bf2_v1_12update.exe

Which was a total waste of time as the vanilla patch contains exactly the same updates to make the none SF owners download an even bigger file :o

Far as I know anyway.

hmm, ive got a bit of a problem with my battlefield 2... xfire doesnt actually work to take me into a server, and when i put in the target "+playername blah +playerpassword blah" it still doesnt work. its like the game cant sign in automatically, even when xfire asks for the user and pass still doesnt sign in right :(... any ideas?

Happens to me too Deko, I don't know what it is, probably just BF2 doing it's thing

Its too stupidly slow anyway to be honest. your better off just copy pasting the IP off of Xfire in to the Connect to IP box in Multiplayer. You'll get there quicker and if its full (fair old chance of with the speed Xfire gets into it) at least you wont end up sat in Bf2 with no way of trying again.

Yeh Xfire SHOULD work fine with it now but the vast majority of people can't get it to work. Mine just does for some reason, pot luck I guess.

Its not related to xfire because I use autologin just from the desktop shortcut. It will work sometimes and sometimes not, I think it might matter if you have a prefix or not, try entering none that might make it work more often

what's the deal with the 'connection to the server has been lost' message about 10 secs after joining? I get this from time to time and the only thing that works is for me to reset my computer.

Thought I would post my question in here instead of making a new thread :)

I have just returned to BF2 after a loooooong holiday (read: about 5 months) and noticed that Special Forces and Euro Forces have been released, are both of these worth buying? And if they are, how do I go about getting them? (I have found the EA Downloader on the USA site but dont know if its the same for us Brits!)

Cheers,

Craig

I own them all and no they are not worth getting.
Vanilla BF2 is still the preferred type and server popularity proves this.
If you have plenty of money then get them anyway as you get more unlocks and maps to play about with but i suspect like most you will not spend much time on Euro or SF servers.
You can obtain the extra unlocks without buying SF by getting someone with a copy to play your account for a few minutes.
Find the OcUK BF2 clan thread add the xfire names and chat via xfire to sort it out. ;)

And btw well done for asking here and not starting a new thread. I can never understand new threads when the people that are odviously interested in the subject have an active thread going.

i agree with malc, dont bother getting the other packs for the game, i solg SF ages ago and i wish i could get rid of euro forces as its the biggest POS ive ever bought. the ea downloader is totally crap, and i get unmodified content a lot now since installing it. and i have to be signed into the ea downloader for bf2 t pick up the servers and not kick me when joining EF servers.

stick with vanilla bf2 mate, less hassle and thats where the majority of people play

I have BF2 installed already, all patched up etc.

I'm just about to buy SF to see what it's like. My question is- Can you just install SF over the current patches or will I have to un-install and re-install?

While i'm not arguing that EF is basically crap, what you are describing doesn't sound right. I never have the EA downloader running (It hasn't been opened since I downloaded EF). I never get unmodified content and can always join EF servers with no problem.
