A beginners first build...

After more searching, I came across this PSU that is within my budget.

It is an EVO LABS 650W MODULAR HE ATX POWER SUPPLY and I can get it for £38

I think for this price, I might as well get it and try it. What do you think?

Oh god, please don't buy that. There are literally no reviews and the brand is not well known.

As such -steer clear. If you are determined to spend as little money as possible either go for the Corsair 400W, Antec Basiq or OCZ StealthXtreme PSUs. Ie go with a well know brand, with PSUs that have been properly reviewed and proven to be good and offer a decent warranty.

Remember, the recieved wisdom is that the PSU is the most important part of your system. If you have a good quality PSU, it will provide stable power to your system for years, if you have a bad one and it blows - it may not only destroy the PSU, but also key parts of your system. So for the sake of a few quid it really isn't worth the risk.

The Corasir 400w PSU looks OK. The only thing i am worried about is that 400w may not be enough power. Will the 400w be enough power for the specs at the top of page 3?

You say you have £52 max, is it possible to increase this slightly and get this one that is currenly on offer for £56.

Seriously, just buy this. It's got enough power for any modern setup with a single GPU, (apart from maybe a GTX480 but not certain about that), it's a reputable brand, I think the cables come pre-sleeved, and it's black.

EDIT: Oops, too late. :P That Corsair will be fine though.

After ordering the PSU at 4:00pm exactly yesterday, I have had no confirmation from OCUK whatsoever, this is my first order from them and so far, I am not verry impressed. Every other website I have ordered from has sent me a confirmation email within an hour of ordering.

I'm sure it said when I ordered it, they would send me a confirmation email as soon as I had completed the order.

I have emailed OCUK and have had no reply yet, I also payed nearly twice as much for next day delivery.

Any idea how I can get them to confirm that my order did go through and it will be delivered today?

Did you enter the correct email address and have you checked your junk/spam folder?

I ask because I have ordered LOADS of stuff from OCUK and every time I have received an order conformation email within a minute of ordering. You then also receive another email "Your order has been shipped" email when the order is delivered and you get tracking details.

I definatley gave them the correct email address. I finally got a reply from the web note I sent them confirming that the order went through and it should be delivered today, let's hope it will be.

Still no confirmation email that i should have received in the first place though:(

The tracking is now working, turns out it should be delivered between 2:31 and 3:31 this afternoon.

When it comes, I will install it into the case and take some photos :)

lukefinch, I've been looking at getting a new case and have been looking at the one you bought as it looks like a really good case! Would you recommend it? Is there plenty of height for CPU coolers and length for gpu's?

Sorry it took so long, i couldn't get the pictures onto my computer. Anyways, here are the pics of the PSU as promised...

There is definatley plenty of room for big CPU coolders and Graphics cards. I was pleasantly surprised at how roomy the case was when it first arrived.

So i've been juggling the cost of my build around, changing a few things to try and get more for my money.

I am thinking of changing the X4 955 CPU to an X2 550 CPU, and then overclocking it and unlocking the other 2 cores to make it quad core.

I would then also be able to afford a Zalman CNPS10X-Performa CPU cooler and a HIS ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card.

Does this sound like a good idea?
