A beginners first build...

I didn't realise that i was, thats why i checked first. Thanks for your help Stulid, i think i will go for the second of your options. :D

as long as your aware that neither of these boards have crossfire, cant be bothered to re-read this thread, so not sure if its something you couldn't care less about?

I wouldn't worry about USB3 at the moment... AFAIK, there are currently no devices that use it, and a card is approx £15 anyway. esata is still better for hard drives.

So you don't think i should get this? Maybe save my money and buy a card when / if the time comes?

I'm not exactly sure what crossfire is? Is that where you run two graphics cards together at the same time?

I personally do not have any plans to use USB3 in the near future. To this end, my recent build does not have it. That being said, when it is finished, I won't have the space to add the extra card.

It comes down to a personal decision. I reckon I will need SATA III before I need USB3, and I don't expect that to happen for a while, but a lot happens in a short space of time in computing.

The question is, is it worth £15 to know you have something you are not using now, but might in the future?

Yes, crossfire is running two or more ATI graphics cards together. It is called SLI for nvidia cards.

It won't quite scale to twice as fast, more like 80% better, and it depends on the game as some don't work well with crossfire.

And get an antec 300 + a decent power supply (corsair, antec, OCZ) the case and PSU will be the ones that last the longest!

Please, save yourself before it's too late. I know it's all down to personal taste and all but the X-Blade Silver ATX Gamers Case looks simply shocking. Skip the fancy/tacky chrome plastic and blue LED stage, it's not worth it :D

Try to get something plain but smart like an Antec 300, and a decent PSU. Ones included with cases are usually shocking, and for that price will be.

I concur, that case is just offensive! But personal taste and all that..... :D

+1 Antec 300

You could get the Xigmatek Utgard for just over £10 more:

Its' got much better reviews than the Midgard, is more spacious, has better cooling, comes with a built-in fan controller on the front IO, it looks better in my opinion & you can get the same side window as for the Midgard. I'm using it at the moment & i'd highly recommend it.

But if you don't want to spend the ~£15 extra then I'd go for the Antec 300 instead of the Midgard as it has much better cooling.

Thanks, but for the price I have found the midgard for, the difference is more than £30 which I personally don't think is worth it as I do not need more space inside the case, I'm getting a fan controller anyway and I can use the saved money for more fans etc.

Thanks though:D

I Have Just Found Something

While browsing the internet just now, i found someone that sells grouped packages of a CPU, Motherboard and RAM at a discount.

I have basically found that i can get the AMD X4 955 CPU, 8GB RAM and an MSI 785GM-E51 AM3 AMD 785G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard for only £303.00.

This would make my build cheaper by about £25 and i would get 8GB RAM instead of 4GB, however the motherboard is micro ATX.

What are the disadvantages of a micro ATX motherboard?
