A+ Exam

Congrats - I just got my copy of Mike Meyers AIO STudy guide this week, so will hopefully be taking the exams later this year or early next year.

Passed my A+ around 2 months ago. Currently studying for my MCTS. Each qualification I gain in my job role I get a pay rise :) the company pay for my quals too :D

How would you rate it, difficulty wise, for someone pretty genned up on computers/networks etc?

My company paid for a measure up account for me where you can go through a bank of questions similar to the ones in the test. I did the practice tests so many times it was easy to remember the answers. It isn't hard if you know most of your stuff. I would say it's slightly harder the the cisco IT essentials tests and they are pretty p***.

The IT essentials stuff really annoyed me, asking questions about the amount of pins in cables etc... when it's completely irrelevant information in the real world and you'll likely never need to know it. That's just a memory test, and nothing to do with understanding the concepts that need to be covered by such a course. As you said, it was very easy, so much so that a lot of the time it confused me as I thought "It can't really be asking that " :p

It essentials just gears you up for the A+.

And it was pretty mediocre on difficulty levels.

Yeah even the MCTS isn't that challenging apart from remembering specific command lines, I usually just remember certain sections of commands that stand out. If you memorize things easily you should fly through it. CCNA though is just on a completely different level and actually requires you know what your talking about. Hoping to get that within the next 5 years. Only 20 at the moment.

How much will a base A+ exam set you back? I see it's two modules... going through some of it, seems like stuff I've been doing for 10 years or more.

Would be nice to get it as a qualification though if it's only a few quid.

**EDIT**

Nevermind

As expected it's cheap as chips, might do it just for fun without any revision :p. Need to do a bit of research whether this is actually a "respected" qualification though for my field.

Good job op anyway, do you plan on taking more of the series if the company sponsors you?
