No 2 - Unusual - I like it.

No 3 - Love it. :D

No 5 - Nice. Not a common shot of the Harrier - Shame the wingtips are lopped :(

However - the star for me is

No 8 - Fabulous. Just somethign about it that makes me go "ooooh :D"

Anything interesting at Waddington this year?
Kind of hoping that there's some good Russian kit there.

That was the only drawback this year (Its on again today Sunday BTW) if you fancy going. No Russion fighters there at all but the show was outstanding and well worth the £16 entrance fee. :)

Brilliant pics mate, I like all of them! I wish I could go.:( By the way, was the A-10 on this display?

Thanks all for the positive feedback, It makes a long day out well worthwhile..;)

Back on topic I was browsing through yesterdays pictures and found this factor this morning...

When I looked at the original picture here below I thought it was quite sharp but then when zoomed in I could actually count the rivets on the cockpit window, Not bad for the distance and still flying at that.. :p

Thats bloody good. What lens were you using?

Thanks Simon..

1DMkII with a Canon 300mm f/2.8L
350D using both a 16-35mm Wide angle and my 135mm f.2 prime.

The above shot with the cockpit rivets was taken with my 350D and the 135mm prime.. :)

Exif details are embedded in all the images.. :)

Spending that much on equipment I'd expect to see the smile on the pilots face on every shot ;)

Great shots :) my fav is number 5, but if you could have got a higher DOF it would have been even better. I also love number 7 as the man seems to have a look of nostalga in his eyes, like he is thinking "I remember back in my day when i used to fly planes like that". Amazing shots mate :)

Some great shots on these boards last couple of days...and these are no exception.

Some very nice shots you have there (some very nice kit as well :D ).
Nice sharp images and nicely framed.

Shot 1 could have number with maybe a stop of exposure compensation to bring out the detail of the underside of the jet.

Shot 5, nice prop blur!

Shot 6, as already said a good idea but shame the wing tips were cropped.

I was at Waddington on Sun 2nd & have to say I was very disappointed with the airshow. Was even hotter there than on the Saturday. The only decent display was the Eurofighter & the battery in my 350D decided to give out due to the heat before I could get any snaps of it.

The rest of the display was very boring. Nothing unusual on display. The Harrier had developed a technical fault & all it managed to do was take off & land straight away.

The static displays were not nearly as varied as past years (probably due to most of the kit being involved in the middle east conflicts).

The only interesting thing I found was an exhibition of the reconnaissance missions of the Canberra (in Hangar 1 I think). Which is being decommissioned this year. Very interesting seeing the detail on the photos taken from 35-65,000 ft. It was also all air conditioned which was a godsend as the air-temp rose to well above 30 deg C.

Waddington Airshow has become far too commercialised these days. As it now all seems to be about stalls & fairgrouond attractions. It's a real shame.

Added to that it took nearly 2 hours in the car to get out of the airbase & we headed out at 4.14pm which was way before the airshow finished.

I don't think I'll be attending next year.

The best airshows were at RAF Finningley when they used to host the largest 1 day airhow. Those were the days.

Great shots.

I would crop the Chinooks blades at the front as the open space in the picture destracts you from actually focusing on the monster chopper.

I couldnt agree with you more. However I have never been to RAF Waddington but when the yanks were still around here in Suffolk the Bentwanters airshow was amazing. It had everything, stealths, bombers, vintage, and so on. Unfortunatly they packed up and left. I went to the Duxford show a few weeks ago and it lacked everything, boring displays (which were too high) and the smallest amount of aircraft ever. Its getting worse by the year.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the new insurances. You have to insure your plane/heli to the value of its weight. Really sad. I think its pushing a lot of display pilots out of the skies :(.

Do Mildenhall still do an airshow?
Are the yanks still there/the airbase in operation?

As that used to be a spanking airshow too.

I remember going to RAF Binbrook's last airshow when I was a teenager before it closed.

They did a display scrambling 10 Lightning's. All taking off one after another & pulling straight vertical (they were renowned for the vert prowess) & following one another round the sky. Pure magic!

That plane was so majestic. It's such a shame seeing the dilapidated wreck of a lightning visible from the A1 just south of Newark, Nottinghamshire where I live.

Anyway there is a Lightning to the sky restoration project in progress at the moment. So who knows, we may see that unique shape back in the skies in the future.

Also hopefully the Vulcan will be back flying next year.
Which may just be worth actually attending Waddington Airshow next year to watch.
