Can any of you 'clockers help with a problem ive got?

Good.

The problem is, my mates Pc, hes got my old hardware, know it used to run Ultimate 64Bit. Thing is, now ive put HP 64Bit on, its not installing the chipset drivers properly, only installs RAID, now without those chipset drivers we have no internets.....were do i start? Its been driving me bonkers!

The mobo in question is an Asus M2N SLi Deluxe.

If you're using an HP driver CD, you might want to consider getting the drivers direct from the motherboard manufacturer. PC supplier discs often give me jip.

Home Premium...not Hewlett Packard...sorry for confusion.

Chipset drivers don't install LAN or wireless drivers. They are seperate, or you could get Windows Update to install them.

How did you load the new OS? Not 'over-the-top' of the old one I hope?

Formatted HDD (was used for DATA storage anyway)

Well...how can we get Windows Update to do it, when we have no ethernet working on it?

Because Windows has generic drivers built in.

Windows doesnt have that great a range of support for ethernet cards, and there arnt really any generic ethernet drivers. It just supports the most popular, like intels 10/100/1000 pro cards.

a lot of motherboards with gigabit ethernet use a range of budget gigabit ethernet controllers, many of which are simply not directly supported by windows. They all come with an ethernet driver on their distribution CD, or if you have another computer download the driver and copy it over with a memory stick.

Even more recent boards, I recently reinstalled one of my spare computers, which as an Asus motherboard, and it uses some gigabit ethernet controller I never heard of (Atheros), which has no "generic" driver in XP / Vista or even Windows 7.

If you cant find the original CD which may or may not have a 64 bit driver, you'll have to download one using a computer that is net connected.

Got it working, last time it wouldnt work, this time 1st time on plugging my upstairs ethernet into his machine...odd

Well, I'm only speaking from my own experience with the past 6 or so motherboards I've used, which it has nicely autodetected ethernet support for :)
