Still considering a Macbook :)

1) Does the Mac have an equivalent to a delete key? I know it has a backspace but where on erth is delete? If there isn't one then can you map one when running Windows via bootcamp/parallels/virtualbox?

2) I understand you can run Windows using Bootcamp. Does it also allow you to boot into Linux?

1) Command + Backspace usually acts as a delete key, for files, folders and that sort of thing. In Windows you can use SharpKeys to map keys.

2) Officially Bootcamp doesn't support Linux, but if you have a search on Google there are guides to follow to get it set up. The easiest will be to use the Wubi installer in Ubuntu while you're in a Windows partition already.

fn + backspace will delete to the right.

You can boot into Linux on a Mac, I've not personally looked into it but I gather it's perfectly doable, although not officially supported.

thought fn + backspace did delete, so in windows you can do ctrl +alt +fn +backspace to do ctrl alt del....

You can do linux through boot camp, someone on here has but i cant remember who it is annoyingly, and tripple booting is possible but a lot harder.....

Macs are yummy though

Thanks guys :)

Off to the Apple store later today to buy my wife a new iMac. I'm very tempted to get myself a (used) Macbook.

Fn+Backspace = Delete in Windows.

Bootcamp is a misnomer. Bootcamp is simply the name for the wizard utility that helps computer newbs partition their harddrive correctly, install Windows, and install drivers on the Windows side.

In actual fact, the partitioning can be done manually in disk utility without using Bootcamp at all. So you can partition a hard drive for linux, boot from CD, and install to it.

When Apple says that Linux isn't supported by Bootcamp, they mean they dont supply drivers. That's it.

To quote arnie... "Do it, Do it NOW!"

Done! I'm currently installing all her software (CS4, etc).

27" I hope! Never skimp on the wife's iMac!

Sadly just the 21". She didn't want something too big and in all honesty we couldn't really afford this one. It was a forced purchase when her Powermac G5 died a few weeks ago. She needs it for work and while the 27" would have been nice, this one is still miles better than her old G5. Her old screen was a 19" too.

I have to say, this really is a lovely machine. I am almost certainly going to try to get a Macbook of some description by selling old components to fund it.

:D! Lucky! The new iMacs are amazing!

I did the same thing with my old pc to get my self a macbook pro in the summer (2 years of oggling my mates one sold it to me) BEST decision ever!

Which model did you get?

The 2.66ghz 15 inch pro (with the 9600gt which was the bit i really wanted), its completally managed to replace having a desktop pc (which was the intention but i didnt expect it to do so well), though i did get the adaptor to use my old monitor with it too :)
