Hi Guys

Need your techie help.

Said I would take a look at a friends sons pc....It wont boot up.

Its pretty old...

When I first turned it on it was artifacting on the bios screen, So I think its safe to say the card is knackered/on its way out (9800 GTX 512MB:eek:)

So I have just put a spare 5770 in. That got rid of the artifacting problem.

But it still gets to the same screen. The drive has apparently been wiped but they couldn't get windows to reinstall.

Things I have tried:
Switched GPU's
switched hard drive power cable
Tried a hard drive with a working copy of windows, but it gets to the loading screen and blue screens. to fast for me to see error code.
Have also checked boot order and hard disk is set as 1st priority, is that right?

XFX 780i SLI mobo
Intel E8400 CPU - (noticed the Multiplier was on 9, dont have a clue what that means though)
700W Fatality PSU
Reset CMOS

This is the screen showing currently. Is this what it should be showing if there is no OS?

Thanks guys

dont know if this is the right forum btw

If you look at the BIOS, does it show you have the OS drive connected?

Look at the top of the pic.

SATA Channel 1 Master Disk : LRC, ATA 133 500GB

And at the bottom it says,

DISK BOOT FAILURE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

@OP, have you tried to do a fresh install of the OS with both drives?
Try the installation disc and see if you can do a system repair.

Looks like Windows has gone on without a hitch fingers crossed. Perhaps my friend didn't format the drive properly who knows! Looks like its all sorted. The 9800 GTX is poo-poo'd I think though so he will have to have my 5770.
