A is a word

a lot / abit / awhile / .. X

a lot / a bit / a while / .. O

You're welcome!

abit may argue with you and awhile is a perfectly acceptable english word.

USAGE NOTE Awhile, an adverb, is never preceded by a preposition such as for, but the two-word form a while may be preceded by a preposition. In writing, each of the following is acceptable: stay awhile; stay for a while; stay a while (but not stay for awhile).

Not in the context it's often used in.

(I also forgot a preemptive iseewhatudidthere :()

You made no mention of context. You said, and I quote:

a lot / abit / awhile / .. X

a lot / a bit / a while / .. O

You're welcome!

I call your attention to:

awhile / .. X
In particular.

You have tripped and fallen on your own pedantry sir.

a lot / abit / awhile / .. X

a lot / a bit / a while / .. O

You're welcome!

Whilst I would normally say "wow yeah people writing 'a lot' annoys me too"... the mere fact that we have threads like this so bloomin' often means you get a big fat

I did not define what my red X meant. The only claim I made was that "A is a word" - of course I have double-checked each in a dictionary!

I hope this is enriching some lives!
