A Lesson Learned

This doesn’t make sense; three drives failing at virtually the same time with similar faults. I would be looking elsewhere, Mbo, PSU, voltage spikes. Do you have the event viewer logs?

I agree - but checked all that - don't forget my main storage drive died after a long trip in the car with the machine. The other two drives - all I can think is that I somehow gave them a dose of static when handling them. I was very careful as usual, but it is what it is. So from now on as I had no warnings about these mechanical drives failing in any way, I will make several copies of important documents etc on different media + cloud as well.

Out of interest, when you handle them, do you only touch the two edges? Or do you touch them all over so to speak

Usually the sides only, but who knows I may have erred on this occasion, as I agree there is no way you should lose 2 drives in quick succession. Maybe I was not as careful on this occasion. I have since fitted the replacement WD caviar Black 1 TB with no problem and working fine :D

I hope this will end my recent run of bad luck or catastrophes with hard drives.
