Hi,

I made a thread about this a few days ago but no replies :P But now I really need to make an decision...

Done my AS levels (only 2, naivley dropped 1 at the start of the year) failed one, did okay in the other.

Now that really doesn't look good but.. there's reasons: 2 subjects = a lot of free time - I ususally went home to play WoW - something im gonna quit. Also a lot of friends left after gcses and more have left recently so I was really bored... and other people there? imo they're generally weird

So now, I could either go back... or go to a 6th form college which sounds great (its a nice place) BUT it would be another 2 years (i'd have to repeat a year that ive already done) and i'd be with the year 11's moving up.. (although I think im the youngest in my year atm) AND it would be 4 AS/A levels

Looking back at my short life I have always made bad decisions and I know if I didn't go to this college id regret it but if I do... i can see myself quitting after 2 weeks...

Any advice?

cheers

go to college and start again.

edit: and dont quit.

Easier said then done. Having to start again can be a real drain on motivation.

OP, listen to what I've got to say and really take it on board. Passing your a-levels is easy providing you put in the work for it. Don't go home after school every day, fall asleep and expect to find yourself getting A grades - it wont happen.

You need to attend regularly, and study even more. Break up the material throughout the year and really, really digest it.

Don't start again, just continue on to A2.

The fact that there aren't any people you really like to mix with will actually help you.

Doing A levels starting 2moz

Any advice other than Nix's?

I re-took my as year at a new college last year, and am now happily moving into my a2 year at the same one.

Although it was a real shock to the system, after failing miserably the first year, perseverance brought me through it with grades b c c (I also hope to retake two modules - easily bringing me up to a b c)

The first month or so is the toughest what with parties etc, I'm not saying don't go to them, just make sure you've done all the work necessary beforehand :p

A new group of friends more inclined to work helped me no-end too :D But Christ can they drink! So it's not all bad!

Well its a lovely BTEC course worth 3 a levels

Animation
Web
3d work
Audio
Video

In this course im not expecting the staff to hold my hand right?

In Btecs they pretty much let you have free reign over your studies - but remember you can always ask for help, don't be intimidated which is the easy thing to do, especially at a large college

Interactive Media Zefan ;)

Intimidated pft, i've been there for a year :D

It should be pretty darn easy, but it'll most likely bore you (From what I've heard BTEC's involve tonnes and tonnes of documentation as it's pretty much all coursework).

I. Hate. Exams.

Coursework is easy, building up a portfolio of your work is a lot better in my eyes (done it in school and college, untill they lost it all >_<[school - ANGUS])

Urgh, I just can't do coursework unless I'm really interested in the subject. Hopefully this year will be alright as I love games :p

I love exams because it's short and sharp, over very quickly and you can just blitz revision before it.

Never been good at revision :(

Few of my mates are on the same course is basically a Games course...

Had presentations in both courses, while the games one looked cool i just didnt want to live and breath games

Chose i-media cause it demands creativity, been creative at a young age with Art and PC's

Aaaaalllll riiight

Pick some subjects you actually want to do, and don't make your subjects all number crunching (e.g. maths, further maths, physics, economics or whatever), balance them out... I'm probably going to be an engineer or something involving maths, so I took maths, further maths, chemistry, media studies and psychology. Nice and balanced (further maths is instead of general studies).

Thanks to Nix and others for the advice.

Did you find the age thing weird? like being with people a year younger?

I'm still totally undecided and ive pretty much gotta decide by tomorow  but I might have to this college if im not allowed to continue the subject in which I got a U in. 2 years though, damn =/
